Also could you let me know if this stuff is compatible? I just dont really know what im doing and I feel lost!

Castle Creations Sidewinder SV3 motor/ESC combo 4600 kV - $110
Savox 1257 servo - $67
Spektrum DX2e Radio System (transmitter and receiver) - $59

Does this stuff look good? I'm trying to get into racing, but I dont have a ton of money to blow.

Also, I am totally lost when it comes to the motors...should I get a higher kV? I have a bunch of 2S LiPo's that I will be using.

Thanks a lot in advance for everyone's time and help.

Servo: Spektrum S6040 ($70)

Battery: SMC Shorty 4300mAh 50C ($30 - when instock)

* - First thing I would upgrade. Futaba 4pls is a good value radio. ($250)
** - ESC - Hobbyking® X-Car 120A ($38 - Hobbyking usa warehouse)
*** - Motor - Turnigy Trackstar 8.5 ($33 - Hobbyking usa warehouse)

I'm going to stick with RM for stock motor. That way it will be easier to swap my 1.0 electronics onto my new 2.0
Which setup sheet would you recommend me to start with?
I haven't run there myself, but I have been there and seen cars run. If I was racing stock there, I'd run RM.

My setup from OCRC for stock, or James Raschko's should be a good place to start.

Default spektrum shorty 6070 servo installation question

Been out of 1/10 scale for a year now and forget how I got the servo arm on, without hitting the bulkhead and not having the ballcup hit the top of the servo case during full swings in steering?? Move the servo arm one tooth over? Which way? Grind some of the bullkead off? Or both? Or was it shim .5 mm less than the recommended 2.5mm because its a shorty? Shave off some of the ballcup and some of the servo case so it doesn't hit? I think I tried them all, but forget what actually worked! Lol. Its a stock losi 22 1.0. Thanks in advance. (I know this is the 2.0 thread, but assumed this would get a quicker response

Ok great. Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate the help.

I'm probably going to go with the Spektrum DX2e set with the 2 receivers, the Spektrum S6040 servo and I'm definitely going to look into the motor and ESC from HobbyKing.

I'm confused about the whole Turn rating thing. Why should I start with a 17.5T as opposed to anything else. I'm under the impression that the lower the Turn rating, typically more speed and less torque?

Correct...lower turns equals more speed...but more speed also causes more broken parts I'm not saying 17.5T motors are slow by any means but generally if you're just starting out it probably best to go with a stock motor...which by the way I was reading the roar rules and I have myself confused about "stock" motors... haha

How about a Turnigy TrackStar 17.5T Stock Brushless Motor/ESC combo?

not too expensive...any good? They have it on HobbyKing for $70

Also, would I be able to possible go for a cheaper servo? I have a $60 credit for Tower Hobbies and I was wondering if they have any worthwhile servos?

That esc and motor are fine. HK has some good servos. I think the brand is BlueBird. As for something from Tower, this servo is pretty good http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXTCX9&P=ML

Hitec HS-5565MH is a pretty good servo you can get from tower for around $70.

I'm really leaning towards that Castle Creations SV3 Sidewinder Combo 4600kV...after a coupon, free shipping and my store credit I can get it for around $45!

I think I will be able to handle the speed. I've been driving a Slash LCG 2wd VXL with a 2S Lipo and that thing goes pretty fast.

Don't over think it. 17.5T is considered the brushless equivalent to the old school stock motors. The T rating is more for us old school racers that are used to motors having a turn rating. 13.5T is the start of what are considered mod motors. The lower the T the faster the motor. Generally beginners start with a 17.5 or a 13.5. Many seasoned mod buggy racers run 10.5 or 8.5. KV ratings are probably a more accurate way to rate a brushless motor, but it's all Greek to me.

Ok awesome. Do you think this is better than the Spektrum S6040?

I was able to find the HS-5565MH on Amazon Prime for $58...so if you think this is a better servo I might go with it

no. but its a better option to use your credit then to get anything castle.
nice thing about that servo, is it will handle up to 7.4v, while the 6040 isnt rated for "High Voltage"
