Default Gearing question...help please

i am running rear motor with a Tekin Gen2 9.5T with a Tekin Gen2 speedo. I have the speedo mounted on the chassis under the shock tower and the battery right in front of it. I'm using the gearing suggested by Casper which is 78T spur with a 28T pinion. My buggy has been thermaling out at around 175/180 degrees and shutting down during the mains. I really like how the gearing feels... what would be a comprable gearing change with spur and pinion....but would cool down my speedo?

Back off a tooth or three on the pinion. Assuming nothing is binding, your buggy is telling you to gear up.

I run an 8.5 with a 24 or 25 pinion depending on the track and temperature.

So are you temping the ESC at 175/180...? If so, are you temping at the base of the solder posts?

Regardless, that's pretty hot for an ESC and a 9.5 application.

I, too, would suggest going down a couple teeth, especially if its an indoor track. Also, are you running any additional mechanical timing or boost/turbo on the ESC? What about drag brake?

Your ESC should be maybe 140-160 after a full 8-10min race.. Use that as a reference point

I'm having trouble with ride height. The front is no prob, but the rear I can't get under 23mm. I'm wanting about 17mm (indoor carpet racing). I'm running standard red springs, and have the preload adjusters wound all the way out. I might go one step softer in the springs but don't think that's going to buy me 6mm.

I use TY's set up from the Tekin website on my 9.5 and it works very very good for me and my track.

I float between a 25 and 24 depending on the size of my indoor tracks.

Set up

To be honest I actually just bought the 22T the other week tore it all down last few days so I will be testing it out first time tomorrow. Rear motor set up to start even on carpet. I'll let you know how it goes

Killer paint jobs! I paint single color as well just because I don't have a air brush to try and go to town on yet lol.

Is anyone here running the exotek version 2 steering rack in their 2.0 buggies? If yes, opinions? I was mainly interested if the version 2 rack was changed to work with the 2.0 front geometry. Thanks!

Use internal droop limiters on the rear shocks. Then go back to what spring you feel works well.
