Made my own chassis protector from generic jconcepts film. A little patience, t-square and a razor blade.

Nice!

Didn't realize the build tips had been updated. Did you use servo tape to hold them down? Just wondering if they are more to keep the body from folding in or if you use them to keep the body on without clips?

I have noticed the slop also. but it is not a problem nor an issue at all. well at least I find it not to be a problem.

20+ pack ran with my d413 and it is still fine. no issue
Torrance, is this slop normal and deliberate?

Speaking from experience a car with no slop tends to be darty! "I'm not sure that darty is a real word...but thats how the car acts with no slop"

Since I am coming from a ZX5 and have quite a bit of mounted tires left, I measured a set of rims and compared them to the included rims with the kit. I found that using ZX5 fronts will increase absolute width (outside rim face to outside rim face) 1mm and will decrease mid tire to mid tire width by .6mm. This is because even though the backspacing is deeper, the width of the rim is also more.

The rear ZX5 rims are interestingly 0.7mm narrower, but the backspacing is also 0.7mm less, so the absolute width is unchanged and the mid tire to mid tire width is increased 0.6mm.

I had to take a body reamer to the rear tire's axle holes and remove a little bit of material to fit the larger axle of the D413. I will use my ZX5 rims without a second thought!
Brilliant Info, all mine will definitely be utilised as well, cheers

Torrance designed the d812 to have "slop" in it when new so I assume the "slop" some of you are referring to is normal on this car. It helps keep the feel of the car more consistent as it begins to wear in. Haven't driven mine yet but I feel nothing feels too loose or "sloppy".

Default Pinion selection

T. Deguzman or Tye,

Can you guys give a suggestion of what range of pinion tooth sizes might be good for me to keep in stock for the D413 ? I'll be running a 6.5 turn motor.

I race at 7 different tracks that have anywhere from 2,000 to 12,000 square feet of racing surface.

The smallest track's (2,000 square feet) longest straight is about 30 feet long.

The larger tracks have straights around 130 feet long.

Thanks for the help

I am neither Ty or Torrance, but I am planning on running a 6.5 and 21-24T pinion. This is based on setups and recommendations for other 4wd vehicles. The best investment you can make is an IR temp gun. I use a cheap eBay one that isn't super accurate, but readings are repeatable. "Run for a little bit and check your temp" is really the only right answer. Sounds like you have a lot of different kinds of tracks to run on, and if I was you, I would have 20-25T on hand depending on temps and speed/acceleration needs at each track. Swapping pinions is really easy on the D413.

Jakesterama, Thanks man !

At least that gives me a range of pinions to include on my initial purchase.

I noticed you mentioned "This is based on setups and recommendations for other 4wd vehicles."

Does the D413 have the same tooth count on the internal diff gears as other 4wd 10th scale buggies ?

Yeah, a little bit of slop is needed so everything moves properly and doesn't change over time as things wear in. I think what we are saying is that it just feels like there is slighly more slop in the Ackermann bar than with the rest of the car. I am sure it is fine, but you know how we RC nerds can be when we sit around at the bench playing with our new cars before we get a chance to throw down on the track
