Ends up with an interesting steering linkage angle... Seems like you could move the servo back closer to the pinion and get everything more squared up.

With all the esc's like hobbywing v3.1, orion, team powers radon and the Toro TS120 pretty much being the same esc the price difference in the Toro makes it hard to pass up. Especially the active bluetooth programming, which allows you to change esc's setting without taking you car off the track.

difference between the esc's shows up in different places between the different brands that on paper offers the same thing
1 HW does not share its tweaks and option in the firmware, and rather leave it up to the individual brands to do their own firmwares
2 not all wire is created equal !
3 not all cases are created equal....some have plastic bottom half, some metal...some have better fin design than others
4 support, i race at norcal hobbies, if my esc messes up i know i will be taken good care of on the spot, probably same day ! if i need programming advise norcal hobbies have people can help out with tips and suggestions, that in it self is worth paying a little extra for
5 the print boards are all the same, but how the different companies decide to solder on wires varies, some will be direct solder, some have posts
6 what comes with the esc....programming card, wires, usb link etc
which brings me to the toro, is it actually made by hobbywing ? or is it a good clone ? hobbyking has copy of the HW v3.1, but is horrible imho, maybe it was just the sample i tried helping to trouble shoot, it was not smooth, did some very weird things...but yeah you can get 3 clones for the price of a brand name
i have been running the hobbyking x-car 120A witch is an actual hobbywing product (the other x-car esc are clones) 35$ i run it in 4 cars, and the only one that has gone bad was due to me reversing polarity ! (still it ran for 3 more months before dying) the 3 other esc have been running 18+months now without a single hickup
moral of the story is, sometimes theres awesome copy's/clone's/rebranded stuff....sometimes you get something much different...and if your looking to buy a cheap china esc....sometimes mid life, the cheap china stuff that was ohh so good in the beginning, get switched out with something else that looks the same but aint, you never know ! until your on the track with a smoking car
BTW the toro has plastic case which holds the heatsink in place, so its only through the heatsink heat can be dissipated, if your fan fails you might overheat, where as TP,HW has full aluminum case with larger heat dissipating surface (dont know about the Orion) but that is one of the reasons that the toro is cheaper...but it might be a great esc for the money i dont know !
i do wish HW or TP would come out with a bluetooth programming box especially if its super light weight and compact, but honestly if a OTG cable that would allow me to plug in my phone into the ESC i would be fine with that (tekin gen2 esc's does that and i like it :-)

The company behind Toro actually manufactures a lot of products that get rebranded point in fact the Hitec chargers. Toro is very similar to HW. They actually have a all aluminum case esc out that I just got and its like $120 for it plus another $20 for the bluetooth module.

I thought this was discussed, but don't seem to find it (and search...didn't). In any case, it would be a good candidate for the front page.
What are the different characteristics of the car in saddle vs shorty configuration, handling wise, and on what kinds of tracks would you tend to want to run one style vs the other?

shorty config is just a bit lighter, make the car more agile (due to the weight), but no difference in balance.
with saddle, you can move battery to front/rear position to change f/r weight bias. with shorty, not sure about battery position, but surely you can move ESC in front or rear of the motor to change weight bias.

this is the toro ts120....and thats a metallic painted plastic case not aluminum
if theres another version out there for 120 bucks...is it really a deal ?
btw bluetooth at a crowded track looses range really quick....at home my little bluetooth speaker has a range of about 10m (30feet)...at the track...about 30cm /12"...but i do like the idea of bluetooth programming even if i do have to hold the phone super close to the car
