Between my EB48, SCT, EB48.2, and ET48, the only problem part that wasn't affected by my driving/crashing was the shims in the ET48.

I've broken 2 front arms on the EB48, both on big jumps landing on a single wheel.

Rear plastic toe block on the SCT, when I clipped a pipe.

1 extra tough front arm, and 1 regular front arm on the EB48.2 after multiple crashes and catching pipes. My original rear diff bulkhead after many crashes. Finally did it this past weekend after accidently hitting the brakes hard when landing a triple on my front arms.

Both stock front shock shafts bent after no more than a total of 2 hrs of runtime. Original build rear diff bulkhead after multiple big crashes this past weekend at Thornhill. Possible After affect of broken bulkhead was both rear shock shafts. replacement rear diff bulkhead, the rear brace screw stripped out.

Overall, Im satisfied. Yes dealing with breakages and such are annoying, I've done my best to test out the durability. I used to drive very tentatively. Since getting the truggy, I've begun to drive more aggressive. driving more aggressive has actually made me faster, since the cars are designed for aggressive driving.

However, I will say I was on the verge of switching brands this past weekend if I had anymore breakages, which the weather cancellation prevented. I will put the buggy and truggy through more of it's paces at the E-Nats warm-up race. That is where the ultimate test and decision will occur.

Keep it up Tekno.

I read this forum from start to finish before selling all things Durango ( Because of pathetic after sales service ) and buying 2 ET48s hoping all the previously mentioned problems with diff shimmers and the rear diff housing breakages would be fixed by now as promised by the Tekno rep that regularly comments here.
Very deflated to find the diff shimmers are still the same in my new kits as the failed ones in the earlier kits !! Just hoping the diff cases are the upgrades and not the faulty ones as well !! Lucky I read the thread and purchased correct shims with the car !! Disappointed much !!!

Cain, I agree with you. With Tekno knowingly having an issue with diff cases, they have every right to ask for them to be shipped back. Under the intention of studying the reason for failure. The issue is as you stated above, you can't expect someone to spend more money on a product that they already paid to have shipped once. The product is bad. Send the correct one which should have been in the kit to begin with.

Ok so far looks like the shims , the diff cases , and the outdrives are not good ! l`m glad that i waited , hopefully Tekno resolves this problem soon , waiting on Tower hobbies hopefully is a new batch :(

I couldn't agree more, Tekno's rc's are the best! Big deal if there're a few minor problems with the first batch. Something that should be expected. I've dealt with a other rc companies with warranty issues and Tekno makes problems go away without trying to blame the customer.

I agree no big deal. I still love my Tekno's. We all know that each first run of any kit WILL have problems. I knowingly bought into it. I just ask it to be fixed on their dime, not mine.

I use all those at the same track with the same motors, ESC's etc and NONE of them including the 5-6 Teknos have remotely the amount of wear as on the Tekno truggy. I was a pretty big Tekno fan boy until recently but I have found much more durable cars. I like the Teknos don't get me wrong but the parts durability isn't quite as good as some other manufacturers.

Mullet I'm with you man I have a total of 30minutes on my brand new et48 and my outdrives that came with this kit are defective and have excessive wear. The best Tekno has for me is send them in on your dime, we'll give you a 50% discount on new ones to replace the BRAND new ones I just flippin purchased? WTF? I JUST BOUGHT these brand new! NO company I've run before has ever had this poor of service. If I had issues with losi (horizon) or Durango (hobbico) or any other I've ever owed as soon as they had proof of purchase and proof of the issue they shipped the replacement out the next day at NO COST to me. I ALREADY paid for a good product, I should get a good product! I just sold off and converted all my 1/8 scale vehicles to Tekno 2k+ invested and they cannot simply replace my defective outdrives with less than 30minutes on them. These outdrives have more wear than my losi's did after a year of racing. And before anyone says it.. If I didn't just drop all this money and sell off all my other stuff at a loss I'd sell these damn things and support a company willing to stand behind there product. At this point I'm stuck, I'm not about to take another hit out of my pocket. Unreal 50% discount and I pay shipping both ways for something that shipped, they sold me brand new that is defective. GOT IT. I totally understand what to expect from this company moving forward. I've been holding back from a post for a couple days thinking maybe I was over-reacting but I'm not. This is total crap and if this isn't handled properly, there are no threats.. I just make one promise everyone I know will know the truth, I won't sugar coat anything.

I'm not even going into the bad gear housings they are not taking care of properly.. but at least the .20c bad washer issue they will send out replacement parts as they should have.

And by the way I too am not the least bit angry there are issues, I'm upset they are not being handled properly! New vehicles and parts always have issues at first, totally expected.

I'm not seeing the out drive wear that you 2 are experiencing. I have about 2 hours total on the truggy. It took a year of running the original buggy to show wear.

Also, I'm just going to buy new rear diff bulkheads on my own. I look at it, that my crashing had a part in the breakage. If I wasn't crashing, then yeah I would take Tekno up on their replacement offer. At least Tekno is willing to work with everybody. Most companies would just say tough titty. You guys are basically crying over spilled milk.

My eb48.2 outdrives are perfect and show normal use with the same run time on them. Even on the truggy the center outdrives are perfect. The front and rear however are not, they were not of the same quality. This is a no brainer full replacement with a good part, since it was BRAND new.

aggie4231 03-07-2014 08:32 AM

My front/rear outdrives still look good, and I was running hard on a 6s setup until last Saturday.

rythby 03-07-2014 08:43 AM

I am seeing no wear on my outdrives. I have an original eb48 and an et48. My brother is still running a version 1 buggy with no wear. I understand how the company has to make a stand somewhere. There is a fine line between warranty repairs and a bunch of scrubs just trying to get something for free. I had an issue with my shims and I spent the 2 dollars to replace them. I had an issue with the gearbox and I put another one on. All people are doing is taking up Tekno's time. They should be focusing on the EB410. The problems were identified and corrections have been made. These cars are tough as hell. I came from mugen and I would never go back.

MX304 03-07-2014 09:17 AM

I'm seeing a lot of wear on my rear out drives, soI am about to swap them out for some of the non-lightened versions from the EB48. If they wear as fast as what came with the truggy I will be very surprised. I may try hardening a stock set a bit more as well. Obviously at some point you risk them breaking from being too brittle but I think it's worth a shot. I have done it on other mfg. parts over the years.

boudin4evr 03-07-2014 11:06 AM

does anybody know if the diff mount screws on ALL tekno vehicles
match up with say AE RC8.2, Losi 8ight, Mugen, xray, etc...?
Elite RC motor mounts are the best in the business!
I sold my last 2 with vehicles! :(
was gonna hunt another one for my TEKNO cars!
I'm assuming Brandon is out of business? If so, Somebody can make these!

I have about four hours of practice track time, three full weekends of racing, two sets of tires, and several diff fluid and shock oil changes, with hardly any wear on any of my out drives or pins, and zero problems with the cases. Just my opinion but I believe its the driving styles causing alot of these problems. Hard on the throttle to slamming on the brakes will result in these issues some are having. Dont get me wrong there could be defective issues but I think that the majority is driving styles. This by no means says that any of you are bad drivers, just hard on your equiptment. Also overtightening puts extra strain on things also. Tekno will be at the Ice Breakers Race in Garland next weekend and I am going to try and talk with them and get their opinion on all of this also. If any one wants to race there is still slots available for E-Truggy.:batman::spidey:

Anyone tried the replacement diffs ( TKR5016B ) ???

I don't see why they wouldn't last if:
1) you use thick (.06" or thicker) lexan
2) plastic washers to prevent stressing the mounting holes due to overtightening.
3) Get the hole spacing right (60 mm).
4) don't make the holes too small.
5) make sure that nothing can touch the guards anywhere throughout the full travel of the suspension or during full flex if the wheels during a hard crash.

Modding a pair of DE racing guards was my first thought before making my own.

I just finished modding a set of the DE guards. I was able to use one of the mounting holes that are already drilled in the guard, and drill the other hole to fit. It didn't take much trimming at all, just a bit on the end that goes toward the chassis. Then just trimmed the sides of the body just a bit for clearance. I think they will work well.

Even if another uses the same mounting dimensions, the mount for the Tekno is reversed compared to all of the others. All of the elite mounts are ment to put the motor on the right side behind the diff, if you flip it around then the motor would be where the battery is.

In between working 11 hours a day, grad school, and my 8 month old daughter, I finally found enough time to put my truck together. Just need to paint and glue tires. :D
