I just picked up a 13.5 maxilla for my short course. Normally I dont use much timing on 13.5 motors it seems like they have more torque. Any recommendations on gearing and timing that brings the power.
Thanks Todd

Need some recommendations for blinky 17.5 buggy with 2.43 gear reduction. I have a Killshot Torque stator and I have both a turquoise rotor and a purple rotor. Which rotor would you suggest for a large high grip outdoor track? Im also looking for a good starting point for gearing and can timing? Im good at tuning my d3.5's but this motor is new to me.

Just recently replaced my D3.5 17.5's due to the ROAR ban and I participate in quite a few ROAR rules races. In stock buggy im running the Killshot (rpm) with the 12.5 ht rotor. This motor had big shoes to fill and it did that and more. I was very impressed with raw power this motor has. I was over shooting jumps that I could just barely make with my old motors. I couldnt be happier.

i just recently picked up an express motorsports animal version (rpm stator with torque rotor) and it is VERY impressive. and this coming from someone that runs in the land of the latest and greatest 17.5 (R1 wurks)...

I have been running the standard 17.5 torque model in a T4.2 for about 6 months off road racing.

We were trying to get everything we could out of it and weren't nice to it.

It was geared 72/27 with 55* timing. It would come off the track between 150-165 after 6-8 minute runs. It was really fast and we knew it was probably a ticking time bomb running those temps.

It didn't let the smoke out this weekend but it's time for a new motor... It faded at the end of our first 6 minute qualifier. Son didn't tell me anything till later, so I didn't know anything was wrong. Threw it back out for the second heat and he said it didn't have the power it used to and faded really bad toward the end of the heat.

I threw a spare motor in for the mains and didn't try to run it again. I didn't temp it after the first or second heat because it shouldn't have been any different than any other race previously. I would have temped it if my son would have said something about it wasn't right.

Do motors just get weak after time and abuse?

You may just need to throw a new rotor in it. Magnets are very sensitive to heat. I run my motors on the edge all the time 160-175 and if I feel it getting flat i just pop a new rotor in and its good as new again.

I know there's a lot of talk about different rotors and stators, run the RPM stator with HT rotor or high torque stator with HT rotor.... I feel like we have the car tuned really well, its as fast or faster than anyone where we race. I don't want to change to much because my son drives it and I'm just the pit crew and his communication/knowledge isn't the best at this point (he just turned 11).

It's a HT stator with the 12.3mm broadband rotor (they way you buy the stock high torque model). What's your thoughts on different rotors?

I raced at rugracers yesterday the biggest indoor series in the uk.
I've alway lacked power with the killshot high torque 17.5. But turning the timing up to 65 - 70 degs of timing seemed to bring the motor alive it seems quite high , has anyone else found this I wonder if the timing marks are not accurate
