1/8 Scale Killing Machines
Hi everyone,
I race at an indoor track. There has always been concern with running 1/8 buggies indoors due to there speed and power. Especially since not everyone can fully control their vehicle. Recently an indoor track and hour and half away stopped racing them because the owner feared the liability. Which I can respect, I'm not disagreeing about their danger. What I would like to know is what you have all seen as far as safety precautions are other tracks. This can't be an isolated concern. Someone must have come up with a way to take some of the danger out of the equation without slowing them down dramatically. I've drafted a letter for owner of the track with a few things I think he could do to make racing safer, but I would like to lengthen the list. Any thoughts? |
Run them on 2s. Still plenty fast.

geez, the thread title is a little harsh
you could put that label on dozens of household items same could be said for the average Pro4 SC truck besides it's not the car, it's the driver restrict drivers who can't make a lap and stay in the lane ban 5 turn motors in sportsman SC and so on I see people driving with too much power and little skill. Thats an issue on several fronts. |
It's hard to do without tearing up the track and maybe hurting turn marshals... One track I raced at stoped it altogether. They tried limiting power to %75 and no turn marshals but it just didn't work. They even tried just to let the top drivers do it but that didn't work bcuz some thought they they belonged in that group when they really didn't at all... I guess I cn see if I Owned the track I wouldn't want the liability as well

Sounds like some drivers ed classes are in order.
Otherwise smart Marshall placement can help. Closed toe shoes should be mandatory. And sometimes the track is just too small for 1/8. Our home track is about 45*70' at best and we've always made it work. |

"1/8th scales don't kill people, 1/8th scale drivers kill people"

It's not the guns or the cars, it's the people using them.:)
I'm pretty sure a few people in this world could make deadly use of plastic silverware. |
Oh boy you open a can of worms talking about Gun laws that dont work . Back on topic dude.

I cant really agree with the 1/8 scale killing people down here 1/8 ebuggy and nitro are our biggest classes. Ive seen some marshalls take a shot and i have as well. The answer is a proper sized track and thats about it folks. Turn marshalling comes with dangers if you dont like it dont race rc. Thats my 2 cents...check out are track mills pond broward county rc thats how its done!

All tracks should have one. Sign it or don't race... BINGO ! I don't think there is anything wrong with 1/8th scale , people who whine about them crack me up . I have been struck by nitro buggies and truggies and I don't blame the drivers as its hard to see sometimes and impossible to stop a truck/buggy in the 10-15 feet of vision most drivers see past their car . Its up to the marshals to make the right decision when to go out on the track to get a vehicle . And its up to the track designers not to put marshals in spots where they could get hit easily . And if some fool shows up to the track wearing sandals well he deserves to get hit and taught a lesson IMO Are marshals gonna get hit ? Yes they will , that's just the nature of the sport IMO . |
Disclaimers dont really protect you 100%.
