Looking for our first car for my son. Low speed off road
 

My son turns 4 soon and I'm looking for a low cost but controllable and very low speed. We live in the woods and have lots of land so I want to build him a track that we can work on together and build on. We are very new to this so any info or pointers would be appreciated.

Traxxas Slash. They are very tuff with a few minor hop up's and there water proof. They are perfect for backyard bashing or a youngster.

Slash parts are in stock at every hobby shop out there. So when he breaks parts you can get back to speed soon.

Also you can turn back the EPA and reduce the top speed until he gets better.

Everything mentioned above and great customer service. They have a very easily programmable speed control with a 50% mode. If you decide you dont like it they are worth more than most used with just a little maintenance.

traxxas esc's have a "training" mode. it cuts the power in half. I used a traxxas esc to help my kid learn to drive. Plus you can use dual rates and epa to lower it further.

Start him with an RTR rock crawler, they are slow enough to let him get the concept of steering and throttle/braking and won't be fast enough to hurt him if he runs into himself or break the car. Then from there I'd get him a short course.

Id say associated, a little tougher than a traxxas and every hobby shop still has parts

+100 on the traxxas, my son has been racing/bashing his slash for almost 2 1/2 years, he has broken 1 rear hub, 1 front steering knuckle and 3 motors, and the servo gave up the ghost about 3 months ago, he runs it in the mud,snow,water puddles( lets see an associated do that) and it just keeps on going.

Only way to go is slash. They hit walls and bounce off like nothing happened. No other car will be able to do that without breaking the whole front end.

Traxxas Slash 2wd with the 12T brushed motor. It's a tank. There is a setting on the speed control to reduce it to %50 power, so it will be very low speed. That, or one of the Traxxas Monster Jam series trucks. Perfect for your youngster. Parts are dirt cheap and they are easy to maintain.

IMO the hpi btitz is the toughest...I run all three brands of short course and the blitz is the only one I don't replace parts on.....altho I will give the slash a thumb up...just not as durable as a blitz...
