i run a tekin t8 2050 and a speed passion esc in my buggy. a pretty good combo in my opinion.

im pretty sure the hobbywing xerun 150a esc is the same as the speed passion with a different case. that's another decent option

buy a used roller of whatever you can get parts easiest for. then pick up a tekno conversion kit, hobbywing 80amp/2250 combo. basic dsm will work fine - this cheapo plan led to podium finishes every time i raced, with MANY different brands of different rollers (between 3-4 years with 8e), no lie (and i never had fresh tires, lol)......absolutely a no brainer, and i think no one can argue - thrashed roller, tekno conversion kit (freshens it up AND makes an unreal handling platform), hobbywing 80amp/2250kv combo

turnigy hardcase, eletrical tape if/when the case gets stressed. cheap, can handle all kinds of amps to charge, and stills lasts somehow, lol

all this stuff about balance - what about the difference that collected dirt makes all throughout the car??!!

OK so to update my opinion on everything i am thinking ill look around for a decent used roller if i can find one otherwise bite the bullet on a big money roller such as the serpent .

As far as the electronics i am thinking ill use :
Hobbywing 150a esc $95
most likely a tekin 1900 kv motor $140
Spektrum Dxs3 w/ 2 rx's &telmetry $150

So far i still need a servo(probably have to pick a roller first i assume?) and the roller itself. The speed passion esc recommended above was described as a 1/10 esc and also only accepts 2s lipos. The hobbywing esc shows up to a 6s battery so can i run 2 3s batteries with it?(this would allow me to run a 3s in my touring car so i can interchange batteries for on/off road race days).

Still looking at chargers i'm leaning towards getting atleast two 4100 mah 40c 11.1v 3s batteries (if i can run dual battery) @ $40.00 each

+1. The Turnigy hard case batts are awesome...

If you are interested in the DXR-8E, there's a very active thread on here. Tower/Duratrax/Hobbico has awesome customer service. I've hit it up twice, and both times, positive experience...

The vehicle is good, very good design, if you are planning to race, a few upgrades brings it up to par with the high end stuff out there...

not sure which speed passion esc you looked up.

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Speed-Control

also, any particular reason why you want to run 3s batteries?

There is no particular reason i am thinking 3s lipos. ( i have not bought anything yet) i just want what ever battery i get to be compatible with both my losi xxx-s for on-road racing and a 1/8 scale buggy. I would preffer having atleast the capability of racing a 6s in the 1/8 as it seems to be faster from what i've read....and in order to keep it compatible with the car i figured running a duel 3s for 1/8 and a single 3s for the losi xxxs(touring car 1/10 scale). Would i have any problems doing this or is there a better option ?

and also i see that esc is different from the one i looked up but its still more expensive then the hobbywing so unless there is a significant difference ill probably go with the hobbywing(i am about to read into them to try and see if there is one)

I ran my Turnigy 4S Hard Case for the first time at a track a few weeks ago, and at the end of the day, the back part of the case completely chipped off. The battery itself is amazing, but the case is kinda weak..

I have been reading on different items all day(rollers, motors, esc, lipos ect.) so far i am finding that it seems a easier fit would be to run 2s lipos and just do duel lipo's in the 1/8 scale. By doing this will i lose power at all? or just run time?
