I've been running the Hobbywing V3.1 with a ThunderPower z3r 4,5t 550 motor.
So far works on all tracks with the 12t pinion or 13t (for large indoor) and is easily adjustable with boost/turbo if needed.

The HW V3.1 can also handle 4 pole motors, I had a 4600kv Orion VST2 4pole which was running really cool and had a lot of torque. But since I've tried the ThunderPower 2pole I prefer it for its adjustability.

Thanks for the replies, I went with the Hobbywing SCT Pro combo with the 4000kv motor.

Once the ESC and motor arrive I will be able to finish my first kit ever. Putting the kit together has definitely taught me a lot about the truck and it should be easier to make adjustments and repairs now.

Thanks again,

Great choice. I run the same combination. I ran the 4700 for over a year and switched to the 4000 in April. I run a 17 tooth pinion on a loose 8th scale track. Its smooth and controllable through the infield and is a monster down the staigh taway.

I know what you mean... almost like I don't want the rest of the (I need the most power) racers to realize how less power translates into more wins
Although IMO I think the HW is under rated unlike Tekin...

On a smallish indoor clay track, my son likes his Orion 550 2 pole better than his Hobbywing 4000 and a LOT better than his Tekin 4300 HD. We've never been on a track that needed anything anywhere near what the HD can deliver. It's just hard on batteries and tires, even when you tune it down. I'm wanting to pick up a nice strong 2 pole after having driven his.

Anyone else having their right front lower shock screw backing out on them while driving?

I remember hearing about it with the 1.0, and some people were using left hand thread screws for it, are those still available?

Mine did the same, so thread lock fixed it

Cool

Has anyone else ran a TLR SCTE 2.0 with all graphite conversion, MIP Pucks and King's upgrades?
So far on clay tracks it has performed awesome. Can't wait to try it at Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout!!

I just used a longer screw and it hasn't backed out yet, no threadlock or anything

I use these left threaded screws, just like how the 8ight is built and have no problems at all.

+1 DO NOT use Loctite on plastic, Its NOT designed for it and WILL melt the threads leaving you with a Junk Arm in need of replacement.

No Loctite on plastic is correct. I use crazy glue gel, when it dries it creates new threads.

Question, my rear ring and pinion mesh must be off as I have destroyed 2 rings in as many weeks, breaking teeth. What shims if any should I be using? Does the pinion sit directly on the bearing? Do I shim the dif over so the ring is tighter to the pinion? I have replaced the housing and use the aluminum TLR inserts.

The aluminum TLR diff holder comes with the correct shims. You want to check the bearings that hold your pinion and make sure those are rock solid. Then you want to shim your diff over to the pinion gear.

I love hobbywing systems. When I'm at the pits at my local track, I always is asked what motor/esc I'm running. They always amuse Tekin Hobbywing is very under rated. They Haul that for sure, and reliable. Not trying to start "this Brand is better than that brand" I'm just saying from experience with both systems.

My buddy let me drive his 2.0 with a lightened chassis that had a 4.5 2 pole motor, it was so easy to drive! Very controllable but on the big 1/8 scale track we run it didn't have enough balls. I liked how smooth it was in the infield though. My 4700 is a Big Block Chevy on nitrous I might tame it down some.

Should I up or down in pinion to make it less punchy?
