Default DXR8-E Owners: What model 2s batteries will fit without modifications to the tray?

So this was mentioned on the 49 page thread somewhere but would like to discuss this on a separate thread.

It has been confirmed that 2 Gens Ace 2s Lipo's with 25mm width would not fit.

Can you guys which brand and model you have and confirm that they actually fits besides what Duratrax recommends, which is TrackPower?

I can't go with a single 4s because my charger is not compatible.

Looking forward to your responses.

If you stack the batteries they will fit. If you want to lay them on their side then you need 22mm; I have an old set of 3200mah packs I can do this with. But you are right, the gen aces cannot be on their side they need to be stacked.

Thank you for confirming that.

I just ordered that are 24.89 mm. Great lol. However, the 2s trackpower they recommend is 25mm so what gives?

Also, will two 3s batteries fit with the provided Velcro?

Lastly, are they secured when you stack them? Any problems of the top one to fly off the vehicle?

If I stack them I use double sided tape to be extra secure. It's not the thick/foamy double sided tape, it's more like scotch tape (for wrapping gifts) that is sticky on both sides. It's good b/c it's not permanent but last long enough.

Provide the link for which packs you ordered b/c I"m looking for additional packs. I'm also on the fence on to run 3s or 4s. I have yet to find a good 3s pack though; I suspect b/c 3s is sort of an odd configuration.

Right now I only have 2 duratrax onyx 5000mah 3s' from Tower.

I purchased two 2s' from Smc here: (not allowed to post links yet) 40c 5000mah

I just ordered the buggy last night with a tenshocky 802 and exrun combo. What do you run?

Also, do you think Velcro will work as well?

I run the ezrun 120a sct pro esc and either a tenshock sensored 550 (811 I think) on 2s or the larger tacon 2650kv on 3s

How is the torque and speed on each motor on a DXR8-e, repectively?

The 2650kv is a 4070 1/8th motor. On 2s it'll get up to speed in a hurry if you have enough gearing but all that torque will suck a battery dry quickly. The tenshock has more top end and is a bit more friendly to 2s packs. If you compare 2650 on 3s to the tenshock on 2s with equal speed the 1/8th motor will win off the line every time.

Thanks for your help mulepic. I have another question. I do not plan to race, but rather bash in empty fields and some parking lot speed runs. Is it safe just to leave the factory grease in my diff? I'm afraid I might break something lol.

The factory grease should be fine if you are just going to bash. The only reason to specifically use diff oil is to fine tune the turning ability of the differentials, either have more differential or delaying (it's akin to tightening the ball diff as you go towards higher weight for the fluids).

If you're just bashing, you're not tuning for any particular track layout so you will be fine. They were a pain in the arse to remove, I just removed mine from the three diffs...

I can fit two of 2S packs, they are the Turnigy hard case lipos, but the wiring real estate is a pain to deal with. I'm contemplating on hitting up Hobby King (which is one of the sponsors of this great forum btw). For a cleaner setup... They don't cost too much from HK so hope you consider HK's lipos too...

Thanks Tom. Got your post too late, just ordered the diff fluid.

Is the manual accurate enough or are there extra steps or difficult ones that I will be encountering? Can we find a build thread somewhere?

Also, do I have to clean out the grease or can I just add the diff oil?

Remove all the grease prior to putting the diff oil in.

Possibly.... I would first scrape it out with a sharp flat head screwdriver, then using some kind of degreaser to get the last bit out.
