Anyone running these Turnigy packs? I am running mod 4wd outdoors so thinking I don't need high end batteries like the Orions

GTG. But keep in mind the more expensive one uses 5mm plugs not the normal 4mm, so pick up extra of those.

I would go for the ultimate pack. I've had several regular nanotechs and they always go soft or have a weak cell after using them a while. I've been beating the heck out of a 7500 ultimate in my 4x4 tekno and it's been one of the best batteries I've ever had. Hot charging at 20a 4x a race day and it still has great punch. Just my .02

I've been using the Fantom 100c lipos lately and they are pretty good. The Protek 100c w/5mm are good too. Neither too expensive.

Ive been using the older and newer ultra orion shortys. they are only $59 bucks and they last for ever. I still have my 1st set from when i bought the 15spec and I would have no issue using them in a A-Main with over 70 runs on it.

what are ya'll running for motors/gearing?

Im running a 5.5t motor with 18/81.

People have been saying that might be geared a little high. would it be smarter to go with 19 / 84?

Im curious on gearing for a 5.5 also, with my 6.5 I was running 20/81. I was going to put a 19 on to start but am not sure.

Found a setup-sheet created for XB4 -15, is there anything special I should consider when I use it to my -16?

I had a Orion r10.1 with my orion 6.5 all winter and put the orion 5.5t in since we are now outdoors and on bigger tracks. I started with a 18 tooth pinion and after a full pack my motor wasnt even hot, I didnt temp it but it wasnt warmer then a truck hood would be for a example, I went up to a 19 tooth and will be running that for now on. so 19/81 on a 5.5t and I am 100% sure I would have no issue with a 20 maybe even a 21 if needed but I would never need that much and we have a big track here (710 raceway).

thats what i thought, some people were giving me shit telling me im probably geared to high and stressing my motor and stuff. i thought 18 was down the middle. 20 geared at the high end but doable, 16 on the low end.

It depends on the track size and more specifically the longest straight away. People seem to miss this important part and those guys telling you about geared too high at the track may be right.

im speaking strictly in like motor safety/general driveability. not necessarily optimizing per track. my 18t seems fine on mid sized tracks.
