Can't speak to the shock shafts, but I can tell you that B5 shocks are a direct bolt-on.

I just pulled the trigger on some b5m shocks on ebay for 65 buck . Otherwise i was gna get the pom cartridge set and several pom pistons and they still would of been black after a few packs so bad that they oval the pistons and render them useless. My avid pistons lasted 6 months on a back yard hard packed clay track. I waste more $ on shock oils changing them constantly. Ill change the oils then run like 4 packs and they feel dead causing my car to donkey ass over head. . Its exausting.
Rant over.

IIRC, the only thing you will need besides the B5 shocks are the B5 upper bushings and some longer screws going through the shock tower.

Well, the hole in the B5 shock cap is larger than the XB4, so I used the B5 bushings, and I thought I had to use longer screws, but maybe my recollection is wrong.

Interesting. Kyosho xrings and avid Pistons installed and my xray shocks are perfect. I do tend to run heavier oil for high bite and those shocks like thicker weight.

So the Kyosho X rings fit good?

I run the Avid pistons and they work great. I do get dirt in the oil pretty quick when running on a dusty out door track. Inside on the turf or carpet no problems.

Yokomo X-rings (Z2-S3X) fits very well also. These will keep dirt out of the shock way better than xrays own.

Green slime is absolutely key to building a proper set of shocks.

For such an expensive kit, I am basically reading that their shocks are basically junk? Green Slime or not, the shocks should not wear out that fast. Coming from someone that has run mostly monster trucks, Green Slime is not an absolute must, but it is definitely recommended. I'm building a set of Supermaxx SuperShocks and I am using Green Slime on these. These are too expensive not to.

Either way, for the cost of these kits that come with no electronics, and unpainted body and no foam inserts/ tires, you would think they would have the resources to offer the remainder of the kit in top notch form. Hearing this will probably keep me from purchasing their new XB4 16. Too much coin to spend on a kit that I will constantly have to maintenance or rebuild parts. If I want that, I'd just buy another Traxxas vehicle.

Better stick to traxxass then! NO race level kit is going to come with all/any of that.
