I am currently running the 2015 Basic Clay setup but with the shorty pack configuration.

Am I reading correctly when I see that saddle packs work better with low traction? Is this because more weight is distributed to the rear?

The track I run at starts off as a high/medium grip track and my car does great. however by the time the mains roll around, the track has dried up and the car does poorly in the lower traction mostly because of a loose rear end on and off power.

I just got the center diff and I want to try that but I can't find a medium/low traction setup.

Does anyone have a good setup for this?

The saddle pack set up is heavier overall, but you shouldn't have a problem getting the car to go fast in either configuration. What are your diffs? I would drop the rear diff to 3 if the track gets loose.

Also, I prefer the one dot springs on the rear for any track, but on a loose track, it's especially critical. Normally I run 1 dot with the shock mounted outside on the arm, with no shims under the piston. If the track is loose, you can try 2 dot with the shock mounted on the inside of the arm, with 3mm downstop shims. Only try that if the track is loose though, because you'll lose a lot of corner speed otherwise.

EDIT: I just looked at that basic clay set up again. Your shocks on the rear tower should be all the way outside as well.

What brand/type diff oil are people using for the center diff? I have tried to find Hudy and or Xray 500,000 or 1 mill but the part numbers don't come up anywhere...

Correction>> Not stateside anyway. I was hoping to get something by the weekend.

Kyosho also makes a 1,000,000. I don't have it yet.

That said I have not run my buggy yet. All I have so far is the center diff and some oil. Buggy should arrive Thursday though.

What are you guys doing for clamping hexes?

I want to run 12 mm and use my current 2wdr rims and tires, however when I use the SCTE 12mm hexes the track width is too narrow and I can't even get the wheel tight as there is too much tread left sticking out from the rim?

Do Durango rims fit in the rear?

I would love to hear your set ups.

JConcepts and Exotek both make 12mm aluminum clamping hexes for the front and rear.

I'm a cheap ass and use Traxxas Slash front hexes in the back.

Built my 2015 according to basic clay setup. Tried to set ride hieght, and had to run the collars all the way up just to get close to 19 mm, and when I pick the car up and the shocks drop there is a bunch of play in the spring.....? I used a 1mm downstop shim in front shocks and none in rear, this is what the manual/setup suggests. Any input or suggestions? Thanks.

Just got my kit and have a question. I noticed that they are still coming with the plastic diff gears: #304930 + #304980 COMPOSITE (STANDARD) and that some of you have switched over to the NT gears, I'm assuming (from the manual):#335030 + #335080 (Steel) ... as well as noticing that XRAY has updated the 14T bevel drive gears.

Have you guys had issues with the plastic gears? I have heard that you have to be conservative on the slipper... is that just for the 2014 or for the 2015 as well since it still has plastic gears or have the problem gears been addressed? I will be running a 5.5 on carpet which is going to be pretty hard on the drive-train.

I would run it with the included composite gears until they chip or break and then replace them with NT1's. The main culprit were the larger 35T bevel and 14T pinion in compsite - most of us broke them on a regular basis because we ran tight slippers...just my 2cents.

They will in the front easily, the rear ones will to but I took a body reamer and just made the interior holes a bit wider and my dex410 wheels all fit nicely.

To be honest, your set up looks like it would be better suited to a carpet track, which may be some of the issue. You are running a lot of pack with those 1.2 x 2 pistons f/r, and those sway bars. Have you tried the kit clay set up? How did it feel? I would go back to the kit clay set up and adjust one thing at a time and find a nice compromise between your set up and your driving.

I'm running my XB4 2015 with the shorty conversion and stock setup for about 1-2 weeks now. For the tire choice I chose the Jconcepts Blue Bar codes on the front because they work the best for the track I race at. They were bald a week after I bought them. Any suggestions on how to make the front tires last longer or does the XB4 like to eat front tires?
