Who uses a Turnigy Trackstar SCT 550 can motor?

For the price they look really nice. I was thinking of trying their 5 turn in my SCTE.

Anyone running them with good luck? What are your temps and power like?

WOW.....nobody..........?

it's the forever elusive question...should you buy a chinese knock off, or go name brand. i don't think you'll find good answers on here, but the reviews on HK's website are really good.

i'd say give it a try, you can burn three of those up before you touch a tekin or castle price... but please let me know i've been wondering the same thing!

I just ordered a Trackstar SCT 4.5T to try out. Once it gets here in about a month lol I will post back on here with feedback. I see others using motors from hobbyking and they last so I have faith that this will do the same.

I've got a few of there 540's, no complaints.

A friend of mine runs the Trakstar 8th scale 2350kv sensored motor and loves his, especially with the price point. I drive his and can't really feel much of a difference between that and my Tekin.

Saw one run at the track today. Looked to run well and stayed cool w good power

I was going to update the post over on the scte thread but decided to do it here. I was running a 19t on the Turnigy 4.5t 550 can and was coming off at 175° after 5 minutes. I didn't have a fan on the motor and the RX8 was set at 70%. I dropped 2 teeth (didn't have an 18t) and came off at 145° after 5 minutes. I didn't check it after the 7 minute main. For the next race I'll probably go back to the 19t and install the motor fan that's laying in my pit box. The motor ran really well at 175° was just afraid to push it 2 more minutes.

Sounds good. Mine should be here soon. I got an email a couple days ago saying it shipped.

With the 17T pinion how was the speed of the truck? Was it too low geared? Also what size track are you running it on. I'd like to have a good starting point for gearing.

The 17t was ok but I'd rather go back to the 19t now that I've got a fan installed. Here's a video of our track, this is the same layout that I ran on when testing this motor. I would call it medium sized.

Nice track! I wish there was a nice indoor track like that close to me.

I think I will buy a 17, 18 and 19. I will start with the 17 and watch my temps and go from there. Thanks for the help.......

The track is nice and the volunteers do a great job with monthly track changes and general track maintenance. Unfortunately we live 80 minutes from the track so we don't get there nearly as often as I'd like.

I think the 17 would be a good start.

Well I have finally gotten the Trackstar 4.5T 550 installed along with a Brushlesshobbies.com LT4 esc. I'm running the stock spur with a 14T pinion and it's ballistic! I absolutely LOVE this combo!!! The motor is crazy fast and after a full pack it's temping at 130. Anyone looking for a killer setup should give this a try. I'm using a Zippy 5900mah 60C pack and I'm getting 16-17 minutes of HARD running out of it. That's in my yard driving through grass too. I'm sure on a track I could get around 19 minutes or so out of the pack.

Y'all are running 17t - 19t pinions in an SCTE with the 4.5t ? That seems like it is way over geared, especially indoor. With the Tekin 4600kv people normally run a 13t or 14t. With my 5200kv Tenshock turned down to 90% epa I run a 12t pinion. Thing is ballistic.

I'm running a 14T pinion not a 17-19. I couldn't imagine a 17-19 because like yours mine is crazy fast already. I think a 17-19 would overheat the esc and cook the motor pretty quickly. I might have to turn the power on mine down once I run it on my track. It was fun power sliding it in the yard but I'm sure once I'm on dirt it is a good chance it will be a little too much power.
