Hi Has anyone had problems with the screw threads on these motors?
first time ive used orion motors and maybe my last.
New screws were used but the threads seem very soft and it was a brand new motor.:confused:

What kind of Orion motor is it? I'm running the method r motor and the old screws went in fine.

Its a 6.5 vortex

VST Pro Or 2010 Grey Can edition. Have used both in stock and mod, never a problem with screws.

Did you get it from a LHS or online?

its the VST PRO and yes i did get it from a Shop.

Take it back to them and show them what's happening. They should swap it out with another one.

Have sent jemodels a email so just waiting for a reply.

Apologies if I'm off base, but new screws, positive they are the right size? 3mm, not the deceptively similar 4-40.

P.S. Most brushless motors have shaft end housings that can be rotated to a new set of holes, by undoing the main long motor screws.

Good looking out Dave, I didn't even think of that. Id check that too. But is the motor already stripped out or are the screws stripped?

Ummm..why is it a LHS responsibility to replace an item that can be argued was damaged from "user error".

I would consider it very nice of them if they did that for the OP but I wouldn't consider it something a LHS "should" do.

IMO, contact Orion and see what they say.

One of my orion vst pro motors has the same issue. The first time tightened down the bolts, the screw holes stripped out. I just went to bigger screws. My other vst pro hasn't had a single issue with stripping out the threads. The one that stripped out for me was also a 7.5

How can it be "user error" when the threads in the motor can are so soft and strip?

If the thread in the can was good then if it was overtightened the bolt threads should of stripped as there is a lot more metal around the threads in the can to support it.
This isn't the first time I've heard of this on Orion motors either, one guy at the track today had a brand new 6.5 Orion that had poor threads and the motor moved and shredded the spur gear. The issue may be caused by the original pilot hole drilling before the thread was cut was too large.

So as I said, it is not normally user error. These motors are suppose to handle hard bashing and fast racing. There's no way tightening a screw would strip it out when it can withstand not budging with all the other mayhem. And if its a local hobby shop that is selling the product they will more than likely always swap the part out and they will deal with the manufacture. Manufactures are more willing to give a dealer a new part rather than a customer unless the customer bought it straight from there website..
