Far as I know, Tamiya has always had entry level buggies in their product line, this thing is no different. It actuall reminds me a bit of the Falcon. The closest thing Tamiya has ever had to a full-on competition buggy (2wd) is the Astute and Dyna Storm (which they re-released a while back).
They may not have much in the way of competition off road vehicles at the moment, but I've got faith (and a lot of hope) that they'll be diving back in to this market again in the near future.

Yeah I'd love to see Tamiya get into off-road again. Their on-road tourers are awesome, and I'd like to see that level of commitment from their future off-roaders.

yeah reminded me of the old falcon, that was a great car, and the mad cap led to the astute so lets hope this car does simular. tamiya has a special place in my heart, first car was the hornet and won my first big race meeting with a mad cap with a few astute parts. go tamiya....

and you are corect sorcerer, they have always had some sort of entry level buggy, last one was the mad fighter, same as the fighter buggy but with a classic looking body(got mine for that reason) but it was only a modern hornet, although it handled quiet good. this new car looks to be a step in the right direction for tamiya, and with them bringing out a new 4wd buggy each month it really looks like they are taking an intrest again in the dirt

Hornet - You see that they just issued a re-release of the Hornet? I'm going to have to pick one up. Had one when I was around 10 years old, seeing it brought back a ton of memories.
