B4 or B4.1
 

I’m looking to purchase a 1/10 buggy for a new indoor off-road track that is being planned, and my question is what is the biggest difference between the two.

I’ve ran a little 1/8 nitro off-road, but for the last 4 or 5 years I’ve only ran on road touring.

Also the track size will be about 100x40 clay

Basicly, the B4 came at the time when brushless motors and LiPo's were starting out. It was a improved design over the B3 with better handling, and better suspention. Then Brushed motors were sort of phased out and soon after LiPo's became the power sorce of choice. Because of the weight difference between LiPo's and NiCD's, the buggy started to do some weird things. Thats when the came out with the ballast weight to offset the lightness of the liPo batteries. Then they found that if you moved the battery a bit, the over all buggy was lighter and faster with the better handling caracteristics of the original B4. The New chassis was made and the B4.1 was born. Other than the chassis, they are the exact same.

rear hubs
slight changes in plastics (uprated towers, blocks, race pieces)
front axles


All Current B4's are B4.1's that are made and bought new
You can get a New B4 is someone has a left over from a while ago.,
If you are going to get into this. Might as well get a B4.1 or a B4 with all the parts to upgrade it to a .1 . It will just make things easier down the road

You could have googled it and found your answer in about 5 mins. But what fun is that. :)

So, is the rear ballast weight just for the b4? Or does it work with the b4.1?

It works on both. I have ran it on both.
The B4.1 WC comes with one. I run one in all my B4.1's and my T4.1

How do you tell the difference in the chassis' i just got a b4 roller in a trade. Sorry for high jacking your thread.

By b4 and non +8mm B4.1 chassis look the same to me

Are we talking RTR and FT differences here also.

IF! I remember right RTR comes with a gear diff which has a diff tran case and out drives. This change from ball diff started with the SC10.

FT comes with a ball diff.

b4.1 has aluminium rear hubs (and larger outer bearing), b4 has plastic.
b4.1 has v2 shocks (o rings load from bottom with threaded cap)
b4.1 has revised rear shock tower.
b4.1 has updated cvd's

Both have ball diff.

Shocks are the biggest improvement.

b4 is still a great chassis (I run the ol' girl). I'd like to upgrade the shocks and get the +8 chassis. Other then that, the buggy is great.

Just get a B4.1 or B4.1WC, no brainer. Not even worth buying the B4 if you plan on upgrading it down the road.

Over the course of owning my B4 I have replaced everything that broke with the .1 equivalent. If you can get a B4 for cheap go for it you wont be disappointed.

I never tried the B4.1, but I can tell you that the B4 shocks (v1) is not very good. I can never get them to work the way they suppose to. I have tried tamiya buggy shocks and they are awesome. Comparing tamiya to B4 shocks, its night and day.

I have read good comments on B4.1 shocks (v2) so I suggest you to get the B4.1 instead since shocks are very important in offroad.

I just bought a TLR 22, DEX 210, and won a RB5 kit in a raffle. I'll sell you my B4.1 pretty cheap. Raced indoor carpet and in great shape.
