Hello,
I am building an RB6 to try running mid motor. I currently race an AE B4.2FT.
I have a question concerning the slipper shaft. More specifically the side to side play it has. With the tranny closed up, the slipper shaft moves maybe 2+mm side to side. It is almost as if a shim or two, or a spacer is missing, but there isn't anything listed in the manual. Have I overlooked something or is this side to side play normal?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Mike,
Thanks for replying. Yep, the brass sleeve is there. I ask only because the similarly designed B4.2 slipper assembly doesn't have much side to side play at all. I will run as is.
Thanks again.

Hmmm. Well, I will take it apart and look again. Not much to mess up on this tranny. I know I can shim is with a couple 5mm shims, but they shouldn't be necessary.
Thanks.

Thanks.

No shims are needed. There is something wrong with yours. There is very little play when it's built right. Are both bearings seated correctly on the top shaft? Is the plastic motor spacer mated to the transmission properly? The motor plate flush with the long screws just threaded to the edge of the motor plate?
Build the slipper assembly to the instructions making sure the slipper pads fit in the indents of the spur gear. Once it's all assembled again you should have no issues.
There would be play on the top shaft if there was no slipper assembly installed yet too.

Is this the conversion your talking about?

Also, what didn't you like about the RB6's mid motor layout?

Sorry for the list of questions, but...
I'm likely picking up one of these used without any upgrades to get back into 2WD Buggy. What have turned out to be the must have upgrades (both durability and performance)?
I saw the Avid heavy duty rear axle announcement, anybody have thoughts on those? Which line axle are they equiv to?
Wide vs narrow rear holders, do the narrow ones also help with on power rear traction AFTER the turn is completed? That's where I've typically wanted more traction when I ran my RB5 and tested a friend's car (I'm decent with my finger, but would like to be able to push harder once squared up).
I've skimmed enough to see a bunch of talk about changing arms, what is the net change this is causing vs stock arms, and what is the reason for it?
I generally will be running a medium bite indoor damp packed dirt track (where b4.2's have taken over, including for the original owner of the RB6)...but I just can't bring myself to join the AE herd.

better for high traction tracks

You were correct. I didn't have the long screws tightened down enough. It is all good now.
Thanks for your suggestion.
