Convert hyper 7 or get a kit?

I already have a hyper 7 with quite a few hop ups, would it be worth it to convert this rig or would I be better off getting a kit?

Depends what you wanna do with it. They're getting pretty old now and aren't really a racing buggy, but for bashing, it shouldn't really matter.

Just getting back into the hobby. A motor mount and battery tray is only 40-50 bucks. Might as well go that route I guess. Then if I feel the need to upgrade I will just buy a kit since I will have the esc/motor at that point.

one of my coworkers just did the conversion and really likes it. I drove it and eventhough I dont own any 1/8 scale cars I was impressed. Got me to thinking that it is a good way to get into 1/8 elec buggy. He got motor mount from monster rc for 40$ and battery tray esc mount from losi 8e for 9$ from lhs.

I had a Hyper 7 as my first 1/8 scale. I did the econversion my self. I honestly think it is the most durable rc I have ever had. I beat the crap out of it on my friends mx track and raced it. I spent an entire battery trying to make a double on there track. It was about an 8 ft tall take off and 50 feet long. I crashed more than I made it. I didnt break a thing though. It never was a superb racer but as a basher it was great. Parts are also cheap.

Awesome, any idea what esc/motor he's running in that?

I got one for my hyper and was very pleased. First conversion kit on the market for this car, and its well put together, its designed specifically for the Ofna car.

Now, at the time I was experimenting with a 10th scale system. I've since sold it to a buddy who is running an 8th scale system on 4s ( I opted for a single tray) and it screams.

Dan is a great dude and his conversion kits speak for themselves.
If you set up your car, it can still be competitive.

My first 1/8th scale ebuggy was a converted Hyper 7 as well. In terms of durability, you can't go wrong with it. It truly is one of the most durable 8th scales ever made, especially if you have the PBS version suspension. I ran mine until I couldn't compete any more with it and then upgraded to an RC8Be. Honestly for a basher, I wish I still had it. For racing though, it will only take you so far.

I think your best plan is to convert and run it for a while. Get used to 8th ebuggy and then when your diving skill on the track catches up to it, upgrade to a true racing 8th scale. Then keep the Hyper just to have fun with.
