Default What to buy in a SC truck 4x4

I own several RC vehicles and I want to buy a new Short Course Truck. I cannot decide if the Losi SCTE Ten 4x4 or the AE SC 10 4x4 Factory Team edition. What I do not like about the Losi, right away you have to buy new Shock Towers and new screws, etc. I hear the AE is difficult to maintain. Any solid suggestions. I have been in the hobby for many years and have a 125 feet by 95 feet track in my back yard, with drivers stand, lights for night racing and timing system. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Good luck getting it tuned correctly, installing the servo, and wrenching on it lol. It's a great truck just has some faults and requires a huge amount of tuning to churn fast times.

The Associated is definitely more durable out of the box, but needs more patience and knowledge to tune. The Losi definitely handles better out of the box, but like you mentioned needs some key (possibly pricey) parts to maximize durability. Basically the losi costs more to make durable and the ae costs more to tune. Pick your poison.

Another option if you are just backyard racing and not bound by any rule-set would be to convert an 8th scale buggy. Throw sc8 bumpers and towers on an rc8 and a wide sct body (strike perhaps?) and you're golden.

My vote is for the SC10. Once it's assembled the only thing that's a PITA is the servo.

+1 No issues here. Mine is stock and it's a tank. The SC10 4x4 performs okay on a track, but good luck working on it. Everywhere I've been, the top truck is always a Losi or Durango.

That's easy, Losi!

That being said in the right hands the SC10 can look mighty fine!
Those hands are not mine though!

I suggest the AE route. The truck isn't really that hard to maintain, nor is it a "hassle" to change things on.

I've had both. I spent a lot of money trying to get the AE to handle the way I wanted it to (or should I say the way I thought it should) but in the end it never felt "right". I bought a Losi and the very first time out with it I was at least 1.5 sec. per lap faster consistantly.

Durability with the Losi is a non issue. It's a tank.

To me running the AE against the Losi is like racing a Revo against a truggy.
Yeah in the right hands they can be fast, but how many of us have the right hands?

Bottom line for me was if I wanted a shot of TQ and winning it was not going to happen with the AE.

well his 2nd post on this thread, and the 2nd post in general was:

since his first post was on 6-18, and he had no responses, so on 7-1 he posted he purchased the AE.

so the time for what truck he should have bought was alittle late lol....

i have driven my sc104x4 and someone else scte and the durango, the losi is a pretty good truck, seems like it squares up better on power, but doesnt have the steering the sc104x4 has. drove a couple durangos and just did not like how the truck reacted, of course that would be fixed with some setup changes.

imho all three trucks are pretty good, cant go wrong with any of them. just comes down to what people you race with run, and what your LHS carries for spares. the sc104x4 ft is better OUT OF THE BOX tho imho...

for your sc104x4, i HIGHLY suggest if your using saddle pack to use kody's jconcepts setup on the AE site, if your going to use stick follow hartson's jconcepts setup, both are great starting points and will require very minimal tweaks on ANY track (well besides tire changes ofc)

Based on the OP I would have gone 1/8th scale. SC8e or HPI 125' X 95' track... he has plenty of room for it. With the rumor of a new Sc8e.2 on the horizon The prices on the SC8e are falling pretty quick. $524 last I looked Tower Hobby, almost $80 less from where it was a few weeks ago.
