Default Fuel age?

About how long is a jug of fuel good for? I bought a 1/2 gallon of Blue Thunder 20% back in 1998 . . . is that way past it's prime? I only opened it to fill the tank on my old A-Main RC10T conversion and then the crankshaft broke in two.

I'm not really sure there's any possibility that fuel is good..haha.

Storing fuel in a shelf off the ground, in a dry, dark room temperature place is best..but seven years is a long time.

I asked the same thing at my local hobby shop, they told me once a container has been opened it needs to be used up in about 1yr due to the alcohol part of the fuel slowly evaporating. Not sure if its true, but I do use that as a rule of thumb since I fly planes also and sometimes they sit for months. Now I make a point to mark my fuel containers with the date of opening.
