Good motors to replace velineon with in 4x4 besides Castle 1410 4 pole?
Just bought a used slash 4x4. I'm going to put some larger 2.8 wheels on it and run 2s or 3s. 3s is out of the question with VXL-3S and larger wheels. Even the VXL-3s running on 2s with the larger wheels will probly run way too hot. I will try and sell the VXL-3s esc and replace it with a brushless hobbies 120a esc. Not sure what to pick as far as motors are concerned. Could try and keep the velineon as I hear it's usually the esc's that go bad. The Castle 1410 3800kv 4 pole looks like the perfect match, but the cheapest I've found it was $105 on ebay.
I'm looking for a motor that doesn't get too got, has just as much torque as the velineion(hopefully more), less then the 1410, and can be geared for around 40mph or higher with a slash 4x4 with MT wheels

I have both a Slash 4x4 and Stampede 4x4, both of which are running the Velineon 3500 Motor. The Slash has an SC8 ESC, and the Pede a Brushless Hobbies 120A. Both are good to go with 3S, with the Slash running regular 2.2/3.0's, and the Pede running 30-Series Trenchers on Desperado's. You should be fine with that motor.
If you're hellbent on replacing it, however, take a look at the Tacon 3660-540L-7T. It's a 3500kv unit that'd be a drop-in for your existing motor, and is getting rave reviews for it's low temps and high power. It's also around $45.

Actually you can run a 4-Pole on the VXL-3S, but it's 50k RPM Rev Limiter means you'll have to run a 3000kv motor on 2S, or even less of a kV Rating on 3S. The ESC sees a 4-pole as spinning twice as fast (Back-EMF Speed Sensing), so you'd have to pick a motor accordingly.
Obviously not ideal, mind you. I'm just saying it is doable, however silly it'd be to do it.

I dropped a leopard 3650 2930kv 4 pole in my daughter rustler. It ran so cold I geared it to 28/87 using 1/8 buggy tires. It still get barely warm and has tons of torque. Very smooth too. I'm running it with a mmp. Ive ran 4s in it and it is crazy fast.

I do not want to keep the velineon 3s esc. I believe that is the week point of the vxl system. I'd be happy to keep the vileneon motor if you guys think it can handle a slash 4x4 with much larger 2.8 wheels on 2s. As far as a new esc i'm set on the brushless hobbies 120a. Just not sure if i beed to replace the motor
