Default motors for SC 4x4 racing?

Im a onroad guy so i have no clue about sc motors for open racing .
I currently have a novak 550 5.5t motor but i have only ran it on track practiting on days noone was there .
But stoped in LHS yesterday and he has the new tekin pro4 4600&4000 motors but they look like 440 size motors and measure same length as my 440 motors
Cant see how these motors can be the new hotness being smaller with less mag area to build tq.
Correct me if im wrong
Tks btw im running a gtb for now but have a tekin rs pro put would prefer not to use boost

Trust me the Pro4's are incredible! They have plenty of torque and plenty of HP! I went with a 4000 since I run mainly indoors but I think I will have plenty of power for outside racing too! They are great and don't get too hot either! Best of both worlds! They are smaller and lighter too! I went from a 4.5T 550 motor to the 4000 and have since sold the 550 motor, they are that good!

They're good. I have a 4000 Pro4. Aside from being lighter, I don't think they're any better or worse than a 550. The 4.5 Ballistic 550 is be of the better motors I've tried. I also like the Tekin 5.5 550.

The 4 pole is a nice motor, it is smaller and puts out decent power, but it sucks battery power fast, runs a little hotter, and it doesn't seem like it has as much power as a ballistic 550. I have had several SC 4x4 motors, Tekin 3300kv 4 pole, Tekin 4000kv 4 pole, Novak ballistic 4.5 550 and 7.5. The 4.5t motor runs cool, and it definitely has more power than the 4000kv and with a little bit of timing added it is absolutely faster than my 4000kv Pro4 and runs cooler too.

I run a GTB2 with my 4.5t 550 Novak Ballistic and I'm happy with it

I had the tekin 550, ballistic 550 and the associated (lrp) 550 (4.5's for all), none can top the tekin pro4 4600; at least when on the rx8 esc. I actually chose to run the castle 3800 over the ballistic and ae prior to getting my pro4 motor. The pro4's don't run super hot, you can gear 13,14t on the 4600 with a 80% limiter and have nothing to worry about other than the normal :P Pretty great run times too.. compared to the 550's.

Of the 7 different motors I've tried including a tenshock the pro4 4600 takes the cake. Still like my castle 3800 indoors though that beast has an awesome powerband.

i've used many of the current motors meant for 4x4SC (castle 1410, novak 4.5T 550, tekin pro-4 4600, viper copperhead 4500, tenshock SC401 4600 and 5200, and tenshock SC411 4600). IMO, the pro-4 and the tenshocks are at the top. i like the SC411 which is the sensored tenshock. while the pro-4 seems to brake a bit better, the tenshock has a bit more grunt. they're both about the same smoothness wise. the tenshock also has the benefit of being $50 cheaper.

#1 Pro4 4000 or 4600 depending on truck. Lighter truck go for 4000.
No timing in either it just makes heat.

With timing a 550 motor tekin or Novac but the 4 pole 540 motors are a better choice and dont need any timing .
