Running Lipo on brushed EMAXX?
Hey guys,
I have an old old Emaxx that has 2 Brushed Titan motors in it. I recently just purchased a Traxxas Slash that runs on lipo. I lost the non-lipo batteries that went with the Emaxx. Would the Lipos work on my brushed Emaxx? If not, what would I have to change out to make it lipo accessible? Any help would be appreciated! |
The EVX is not Lipo compatible... Not to my knowledge.. I have the EVX2 in mine and I'm not to sure it is even Lipo compatible... You can pick up some $30 ONYX 4200 NIMH packs from tower hobbies... That's what I run in mine for now and I get about 20-25 minutes out of them bashing around in 1st gear with a handful of high speed passes in 2nd.. Course I'm on the verge of going BL in my E-maxx being that it is the only truck I have that isn't BL at the moment...

A battery is a battery wether its LiPo or NiMh , the ESC does not know the difference . The problem is the EVX/EVX2 does not have a LiPo cutoff built in .
That said LiPo batteries cannot be run below 3 volts per cell or they could be dammaged . You will need to install a LiPo cutoff on your MAXX that will stop the truck when the LiPo batteries are discharged . |
I also have the original E-Maxx that has been gathering dust and that I want to start enjoying again.
As others have said, get a LiPo cutoff installed and it will be fine. And remember, run 2 x 2S LiPos ONLY. The Novak EVX ESC cannot handle the voltage of 2 x 3S LiPos. |
The problem with this even if you install a lipo cut off is that a lipo can deliver much more instant current. This will greatly decrease the life span of the brushed motor. I wanted to stay brushed with mine but ended up going brushless after burning up 3 sets of stock motors, burning up some 750 sized kershaw designs motors and burning up some 12V dewalt and 18V dewalt motors. It only took about 15 runs before the motors got very weak and only would run the truck in the mid teens instead of 30ish mph when new (this was even with breaking in all the motors) If I stayed with nimh batts the motors would last a long time. The lipos just killed them.

I've burnt stock motors and trinity's best. I would advice you to buy a brushless system, and increase your fun factor

The BEC feature of the Electronic Speed Control provides a suitable voltage level to power the radio receiver and steering servo. Typically lowers the main pack voltage to the traditional 4.8-6 volt range for receiver and servo. Also known as a voltage regulator. Oh, and Welcome to the hobby! |
Evx2 is lipo compatable, I have 2 lipos running on a evx2 esc, it has a lipo mode u can switch on an off

I'm sorry to wake up an old thread but I'm having this problem. I pulled old Emaxx off shelf (3906 I believe). Has dual 550 titan motors. Works perfectly fine with 2 NiMH batteries. I recently purchased (2) 7.4V Lipo and LVD and it will not run. ESC powers on and steering works, but no forward or reverse. I went back to the NiMH batteries and it works fine. Everyone is saying stock ESC can run lipo but its not working. ANY thoughts??
