Default Dirt Oval

I'm going to convert my FT B3 to a dirt oval car. Can someone point me in the right direction on a starting setup? The track I want to race on is a pretty tight clay tri-oval.

http://www.dirtoval.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php

You will find plenty of help here-B3 is probably the most common base for dirt oval cars and lots of guys running on clay tracks.

Hello,

I have been at dirtoval.com for a while and have heard nothing but good results from mo-motor's stuff. I am tempted to get a conversion for my B4 to check out all the hoopla. Here is the address if you lost it:

As for a setup, it really varies from track to track, surface to surface. The best thing to do is go down to your local track and ask for some help. In my experiences, dirt oval guys have been willing to help every time I ask!

Do foam tires really make that much of a difference versus rubber tires?

I can't answer that. My track only allows foams as per the rules. Once again, I can't emphasize how important it is to go to your local track. Rules and setups really vary from track to track. It is a lot like real oval racing. What works at one track won't work at another. I have raced on two diffent dirt ovals and each was completely different.

You will learn chassis setup, that is for sure. I found out that just an 1/8th of a turn on only the left front shock can make all the difference in the world It really is fun and don't worry about being competitive for the first season or two. You really have to learn setup and how to drive an oval.

Good luck!

I've driven carpet oval before so this won't be too new to me. However I will get down to the track and start picking apart people's heads, lol.

Our track runs EDM's and Sprint cars. Which would you advise that I start with?

Uh, only about a dozen tracks. Dirt oval? Not sure on that. Check my website and look on the "Tracks" page. I have as many WI tracks/clubs listed that I can find and also a track locator link. Hope that helps.

RC Buddah: now that I have some time to kill maybe I can actually work on that project! The article will come in handy, thanks!
