A Great Idea For Winter!
This is one of my better ideas too. Just one thing: I dont bash....So I thought I'd share this for anyone who does.
Well if you know of a frozen lake or pond and thought that it'd be fun to drive your RC on this is for you! What you need: Old set of tires, foams, wheels, duct tape, and a bunch of thumb tacks like this http://www.intannyata.com.my/store/images/thumbtack.jpg Heres the idea: take the tires and push through the thumb tacks from the inside out so you have studded tires. Make any kind of pattern you think would work best and work your way around each tire. Then put a strip of duct tape around the inside of the tire to cover the heads of the tacks and keep them from backing out. Then put in the foams and mount up the tires as you would any other time. Then, hit the ice! :tire: Whaddya think? I'd like to see pics if someone actually tries this out! |

Well there ya go folks, Integra has a good reference to follow. After I posted this I kina figured it had been done....But if you didnt know how to make ice tires, now you do.

I have seen at least for 1/5 scale wheels that have the spikes built into them for racing on snow and ice.

That would suck if one of those drivers hit the gas while being marshaled!

I've done the thumbtack thing when I was a little kid with my rc10t2. I glued the thumbtacks in though instead of tape. I suppose shoegoe would have worked really well for this. I remember the tacks didn't last long though. Short roofing nails may work better. Super fun, just cover the appropriate electronics.

you would definitely have to be serious about drivers fully off the throttle when they are getting marshalled. That is one thing that even with experiences drivers who should know better do.

Honestly Not really, The 2 sets you see in my pics are obviously both ways it can be done, From the Outside You would pre drill a hole and apply Glue to the Screw which in my experience from Excessively ballooning the tires Over and Over again I Never Once lost a Spike. The Screws from the Inside would of coarse never go anywhere and dont require glue. +1 to samnelso and the Spikes not lasting long, use a Reasonably beefy screw if your doing 1/8 stuff, 1/10 I could see getting away with a little smaller hardware. |
