which new 1/8 buggy
#1

I need advice on which new 1/8 scale buggy to choose for racing only. My choices are: OFNA X-1 Pro, Xray XB8, Thunder Tiger S3 or Kyosho 777 Special 1. My 2 top concerns are 1. handling performance on a tight track with lots of tight turns (need good agility with great steering) and 2. parts availability. I race every weekend and parts availability is always a major consideration since you can't race if your car is broken and parts aren't available for weeks on end. A great handling car that's hard to get parts for would be a secondary consideration.
Right now I race a Mayhem. Parts availability is outstanding (HorizonHobby.com), but I'm looking for something new.

Out of those choices I would go for the XB8. A local racer has the first one in this area and has it built. All the braces and such are nice aluminum and the car looks tough as nails, also comes with a nice set of tools. The car is built super low and looks like a real winner. If I didn't already have two MBX-5's I would get the XB8 for sure.

the XB8 is the nicest kit i've built & i'm going to try it as my main bugy for next year
the 777SP1 i tried last year is also a very nice kit to build & the car has way more steering than anything else out there! the Kyosho looks like it will be stronger than the XRAY in a couple of areas but BOTH of these are Top kits!
i only did a few meetings with my 777 & found it a bit twitchy & it didn't feel planted on the track, i've only tried my XB8 briefly & although it doesn't have the agressive (too agressive most of the time) steering of the 777 it did feel a bit more stable
so i'll find out for sure once we start racing properly again!
if you like the MBX5 you'll love the XB8 as its quite similar in design & build only better & has better steering & is probably stronger with the C Hub fron end! its also got more adjustments than any other car on the market so it should be possible to tune for any eventuality
