Default esc/motor setups

hey guys, im looking into running 2wd modified buggy. my father is running a tekin rs and redline 10.5T so i was likely going to go that route as well. but I was curious how Reedy and Castle were? I don't know why but I kind of want to try reedy, but know nothing about either company. any personal preferences out there?

Lrp x12 is awesome, I like Orion motors too. So many options but the tekin is definatley one of the best. I have a lrp SXX v2 with x12 motor and it's sick! The castle motors are probably the bes bang for your buck in a lot of ways, depends on what your planning to do.

My first brushless setup was a Castle Sidewinder /4600kv combo. Great little ESC and motor Highly programmable. I am currently running CC Mamba Max Pro and a Novak Balistic 17.5. This has been a good setup for me in Stock truck.

I've also had good success with the Mamba Max Pro.

Castle motors won't work for you if are racing in an organized venue. They don't make 10.5 motors, for instance.

I've had great success with Tekin motors also.

I would recommend the Tekin products, especially since you already have and are somewhat familiar with this line. There are several manufacturers that make excellent ESC and Motor products. I'd also recommend one that offers great customer service and setup support available to you. Best of luck in your decision and hope this is helpfull.

Here's a question for ya. I'm currently running a Tekin RS ESC with a Tekin 13.5 motor with boost and its very fast. However, without the addition of the boost, do you think it would be faster or slower than a Stock Novak Havok Pro with a Ballistic 13.5 motor? Curious on your thoughts...

jirish617: I've got an LRP SXX and LRP X12 8.5 that I run in my B4.1 and love, but the 8.5 is too much motor for my buggy skill level right now . I just placed an order for a Tekin RS and Redline 13.5 to run for a while and my LRP setup is in my SC10. Tekin makes good stuff, and if you and your dad are running similar (or the same) setup, you only need 1 Hotwire, and you can share ESC profiles & stuff if you find something that you like. I wouldn't put Castle anything in a buggy... ESC's are too bulky and they don't make motors that are suitable for anything other than Short Course.
