Gotta disagree on the tool part. They were used in the early days of r/c, where as the newer generation is introduced to the wheel. As said before big in Europe too. If it works for him why hate/diss him, where all in the same hobby. But judging the dude and calling him a douchebag for it, only makes you the real tool.

that is ridiculous. a stick radio is way more accurate on the throttle (left) side. you have at least twice the distance in movement. i just don't understand how something like the trigger is more accurate??

started off the hobby using a perhistoric acoms techniplus stick tx, changed to futaba magnum jr > ko ex1/2/5 etc before coming back to computerised stick tx again with sanwa's exzes. now currently using the exzes +. all these while i have found sticks to give a more smoother feel esp on the throttle side, you can just roll the throttle on...

When I started, there weren't any wheel radios... so it had to be stick. I quickly converted the old Futaba wheel/box and it was much easier for me to drive. Then I bought the original KO EX1 and used it for many years...
For those that don't know about the wheel/box, you put your hand around the back to hold it and there was a slider on the side for throttle, here's a photo for you:
The Futaba badged radio was more of a tan/gold color but it was the same as this.
