ezrun 35a esc problems
 

Hey Guys!
I've recently put a ezrun 9t 35a brushless combo in my hsp destrier. I'm using a venom 4000mah 20c lipo in it. It was sweet until the second time I used it. After about 2 mins the car stopped and just went full reverse and stopped. When I got to it the esc was smoking so I disconnected the battery and turned it off. Now the led on the esc recognizes that I'm trying to go forward or reverse but nothing happens.
Im using the standard gear that was on the stock brushed motor. Do you think it could have something to do with this?
I'm pretty new to rc so any help would be awesome!!

Im not familiar with the hsp cars but Gearing could have something to do with it. Somewhere around a 9.0 final drive ratio should get you close if it is a 2wd buggy or 2wd stadium truck. You figure this buy taking your Spur gear size and dividing it by your pinion. Then multiply that by your trans ratio. Also make sure always keep an eye on temps when installing a new system like this. Never over 170-180 degrees.

Also, i heard of people not having very good luck with the 35a hobby wing esc's. The hobby wing 60a esc has been fine but have heard a lot of failures with the 35a.

The issue is a 35a esc is no bueno in a 5lb. 4wd 1/10 sc truck like yours. So many people buy the cheapest HW combo available, burn it up, and wonder why. That esc is really for 1/12 on road, maybe 1/10 lightweight on road. I understand there's no way to know this until you find out the hard way.

As mentioned before, 60a is more appropriate.

9t+35a speedo in a 5 lb truck= toasted speedo plain and simple..I have had good luck with the 35a esc in 2wd buggy, but i have never ran anything hotter than a 10.5 in a 2wd buggy with it, and that was pushing that little speedo HARD!!BTW if that HSP truck is 4wd that is a definite no-no just due to all the extra divetrain load...

Any time you change to a faster than stock motor you have to change the gearing to account for the increase in horsepower. I also doubt a 35a ESC is designed to handle a 9T motor, and if it's a 4wd all the worse.

These are 9t 380 motors in a 540 looking can can and will most definitely work with the esc it's comboed up with, in the right application. As I've already mentioned, it's just a matter of too big and heavy a vehicle, and 4wd.

I would be looking at something more along the lines of this if I was in the market for a budget system for a 4wd sct...

Put your own system together with a 60A EZrun and Tacon true 3650 motor. There is nothing inherently wrong with the 35A EZrun, but like someone already mentioned it is the first choice for many inexperienced people and it simply cant handle more than a light 1/10th with very mild motors. The 60A is very robust and should handle almost anything you can throw at it with a proper motor in you truck.
