The biggest thing that I have found with kids and rc cars is finding a radio that they can get their hands around. I got my daughter a Losi Micro Crawler when she was 2 and a half which is a perfect starter rig, but the damn radio is full size and she can't really hold it. I wish they made junior sized radios. Sorry if this was already mentioned, I didn't read all the replies.

Yes, that is a good point. The stock AE radio that came with the SC10 has a narrow handle, but the trigger has a really long pull. It was hard for me to use, let alone a kid. My Airtronics MX3X has an adjustment for the trigger depth and the throw is much shorter, but the handle is very thick.

When I buy my son a better radio I will check the ergonomics before I buy.

welcome to RCTech. Just a tip, check the dates on some threads youíll find. This one was from 2011. Nothing wrong with bringing one back from the dead.

Put my daughters on 22 2.0's when they were 7 and 9. They ate up racing and got a crap ton of podiums in the novice class. Oldest one is tinkering in on road now because the only off road tracks left in DFW are 1/8 scale size and she just has no interest in 1/8 scale. Youngest one got tired of it and doesn't play toy car anymore.
