Default Beginner 2wd buggy motor/esc

What brushless pair does a Beginer 2wd buggy need. I was thinking like 17.5 what brands make good not to expensive ones

You will get as many answers as there are speedo makers.

Go to your local track and see what everyone is running, that should steer you in the right direction.

Plus, maybe you can pick up a second hand speedo from a local. Save $$

You may get several answers but there's only one right one for what you're asking: Novak Havoc with 17.5 SS or Ballistic motor. Everything else is less beginner friendly and more expensive.

Cannot go wrong with Hobbywing, the value just can't be beat. It is all I run, both is 1/10 and 1/8. Super beginner friendly with the programming card.

couldn't agree more , i just put a 10.5 hw combo in a b4 and its great run time is amazing , running a 23t pinion the thing barely gets warm so i'll be able to chuck a couple more teeth at it no prob .

just type in 'problems with novak' or havoc issues' before you take this advice. novak make a fairly good motor but esc??? search and read before you buy!

+1 hobbywing

I'd recommend just buying a Tekin RS to start. You'll want one later on after you get better, so you might as well buy one right now.

Add a 17.5T to that combo and it should be controllable.

+1, Perfect combo, Tekin RS and Novak Ballistic 17.5/13.5
Cant go wrong, as a "beginner" you dont need any more motor.
A little pricey but the RS is a TOUGH and SMALL esc!
Plus when you get better, no need to buy a bigger motor, just swap out the stator! A LOT cheaper!

LRP SXX STOCK SPEC v2 esc and an LRP x12 17.5. Yeah, It's a little pricey buy you gotta soend some money for the good stuff. Also, a Tekin RS or RS Pro with a 17.5 would be just as good.

And consider why you would hear about more Novak Havoc issues then other lesser known and more expensive systems. More beginners use the Havoc as their first BL speed control than any other. Beginners are more prone to make mistakes that cause speed controls to blow. Experienced racers have mysterious issues with Hobby Wing stuff and there is ZERO back up service for this brand in the US (or anywhere that I am aware of). Tekin is great stuff but much more expensive. OP asked for affordable.
