Default How do you protect your motors from the dust?

Hello,

I'm going for a long endurance race very soon in 1/8 brushless and would like to protect my T8 1400kv motor from the dust. I was thinking about using silicone sealant to close the little openings, what do you guys use?

I would not plug the holes as they are vent holes to help with cooling. I see epic now offers a motor diaper for 540 motors but don't know about having them for 550 motors. I personally wouldnt worry about the dust and run it. I ran a tekin t8 in dusty conditions for a while (used for a couple of seasons) With 0 issues.

There is nothing mechanical in the motor. It's just magnetic fields that turn the motor shaft. So nothing mechanical = nothing to go wrong. Just blow it out with air.

You don't have to do anything different. I run all my motors in the dust no problem.

How can the holes be vent holes if they are against the motor mount when the motor is mounted? Aren't they just other threads for mounting the motor in 3 different positions? I felt concerned about the bearings.

I think he assumed the holes were on the can, not the end where it mounts. Shouldn't your mount basically cover all those holes anyway?

Unless the motor has a built in fan, I would plug it up as best I could.

Not all of them on my RCMonster motor mount. I must be over thinking then, I don't wanna miss something for this race so I'm asking myself questions I never did before

Desiged and built with dirt in mind..... Think you should make sure those tires are the best glued tires you ever did.... Hope you win, or at the very least. Walk off the driver stand with a smile....

You could put a condom around the motor to keep the dust out.

HAHA, hopefully he uses magnums or he will have to switch to a 540 can.

If you are concerned about your motor replace the bearings now and then after your race. If you think your bearings are going to fail after a race that (I think) is going to last an hour or 2 you have bigger problems with that motor. The condom could work but you will be reducing the cooling effect of the aluminium that makes up your can, if you get it too warm you could have melted condom on your motor.

The motor is almost new so no worries .

Just a good video from Randy Pike from Tekin, you might have seen it already
+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

He doesn't seem to bother about the dust
