It sounds like it would probably be either a wiring or electronics issue. All the things I can think of causing intermittent problems you have check. You might be loosing full power to the servo at some point. I would check all the wiring to make sure nothing is causing a short.

Is the rack by chance hitting the horn when you turn right? How many shims do you have behind it with the 1251 servo.

Angry Steering issues.

So swapped out my steering carriers for the TLR aluminum ones and they bind. Found that the spindle is not holding the pins straight so when you screw them all the way in, the spindle does NOT move freely. Put plastic back on and the move fine but all that slop is back.
Did you check you carriers?

Savox and Spektrum together are a bad combo from what I have seen and heard. It's one of the reasons I only run Futaba gear.

I ran spektrum and savox for over a year without an issue. It all depends on the brand of speed controle you run if you need a glitch buster or not. And with the viper system he has he does not need a glitch buster. In all my viper powered cars I have savox and have no busters and all preform perfectly.

If your statement was true even spektrums own servos wouldn't work with there cars, for they are made by savox. I hope that wasn't the only reason you went away from spektrum when your esc was at fault.

Ok maybe made by is the wrong wording, however they are basicl the same. The gears from my savox 1258 fit in my spektrum 6040. They are almost identical. A local also put the low profile servo gears from spektrum in his 1251 savox.

This is good news, because ThunderbirdJunkie just bought some 6070 gears for his 1251.

Does anyone run the gear diff instead of the ball diff? If so how do u like it and what diff fluid are u running? I run at an indoor clay track and like the less maintenance and strength of the gear diff.

Are you running the threaded kingpins? This should make the fit better.
