What motor and speedo are you running? What kind of temperatures are you seeing now? I would try a 28/72 to start with, unless your track is huge!

Thanks, but I gotta do something about those wire motors, those rainbow colors just are not happening. Blue wires are probably gonna do the trick with it.

I run 13.5 geared at 30/72 and I come off temp wise at 110 after a five minute race. SPX/Orion combo. I should be up at 34/72 but the extra gear just isnt necessary.

Btw, if you guys are sick of breaking the front FT axles, go get yourself some of the xfactory front axles. They have withstood a ton of punishment on my car and keep on kicken.

the standard 'team' axles do the job, FT items are overated

They also snag pipes and such if your not running the proline fronts and even then.

Questions?? Another gearing question

I have a Castle 4600kV motor/ESC combo arriving tomorrow for my T4. I'll be running it on a 7.4V 2S LiPo. Based on the site CraigV posted above, and guestimating the equivalent Novak motors, I should be running between 9.5:1 and 10:1 final drive ratio.

Right now, I still have the stock 87T spur and a 21T pinion. This gives me a 10.77:1 final drive ratio, which seems to have worked well with my 13T brushed motor.

My question is, until I can make it to the not-so-local hobby shop and pick up a shorter spur gear and a handful of pinions that will let me try ratios in the 9.5-10:1 range, can I do any damage being under-geared?

I know over-gearing the truck (e.g. with a 8:1 final drive ratio) can overheat or burn out the ESC; is the only risk of being under-geared that you're not going as fast as you could?

Thanks,

Bill

we dont have pipes on our tracks downunder.

its better to finish a race anyway, and the FT alloy axles breaks like there is no tomorrow!

Really? That is interesting. I saw a guy shear off the FT axle on a B4 last night on not too heavy a landing. I think the B4 FT axles are just anodized. I got me a set of Lunsford Ti for spares. I kinda like their stuff. Not sure how much titanium is actually in the alloy but they seem to be a bit better than the FT stuff.
