For those running a steering rack w/no servo saver, are you running a saver at the servo?

Yes, I don't like to take chances, even when running metal gears. Kimbrough Racing has some good ones, and they're made in USA

Metal gear servo I run no saver. On plastic gear servo I run the stock saver. Not to say I haven't lost a set of gears though.

Did your steering radius improve greatly after changing to a metal rack? Mine is about 15'. lol

New guy here, first post and all.

At 58 I have a new obsession, it seems. I am blaming my 33 year old son. For the past few years I have held off trying any of his nitro stuff, but he recently made the switch to electric, and I succumbed after watching his Rustler.

He bought my grandson a basic 2wd Slash, and soon after I stepped up for a 2wd VXL.
Already swapped some STRC parts in, (doing the critical front pieces soon, Castor, steering knuckles and Arms).

We love to run in the sand, climbing dunes with paddles on these things is just a riot...we have Rzr type vehicles and chasing smooth sand to run the RC stuff on is a match for sure. but we don't live near the sand so there will be dirt time too. I have enough land and a tractor, so a track is gonna happen for me and Grandson to play, we might invite his Dad. LOL.

I am really trying to educate myself about the hobby in general, and am very interested in upping the suspension game to the best I can find. Marton Long Travel and the best shocks are a topic of research now.
I want shocks I can adjust and set for different terrain. Still looking for those...

Trying to soak up as much info as I can. The Slash is a blast...especially with a LiPo in it. I need a lot more time at the controls, but already looking at a 1/5 car, easier for me to work on as it is bigger, don't need my darn glasses on...

Kinda thinking there may be a DBXL-E in my future, but boy this Slash is a tn of fun. Anyone with LT info or other words of wisdom that cares to share I'd be very appreciative.

Default Diff grease

Does anyone know of a diff grease that is close to 30,000 diff fluid that doesn't leak out the stock diff? I race in a spec Slash class and would prefer to use grease so I don't have to deal with the diff fluid leaking out after awhile.

Also, I wonder why Traxxas didn't update the diff to a sealed unit on newer production runs.

Best regards,
Brian

Bad Horsie grease. It's so sticky that it can't leak out. I run it in my Sleeper Slash

How much are you putting in the diff? Half full?

It's so sticky that it doesn't really "fill" the cavity. I get as much in as I can. "sticktion" makes it work

That makes sense. I use 100,000 wheight diff fluid about 3/4 full. Too thick to leak much out even without a sealed diff.

Holy crap, that stuff is hard to use and sticks to everything, gear, pins, EVERYTHING. Massive PITA to use, but it does work. I did approximately 2/3 full, but I think "as much as possible" would be just about perfect.
