Default Motor Timing at Endbell...

These motor are very responsive to timing input. I can make my 7.5 go from soft and smooth like a 9.5 to crazy fast like a 5.5 by adjusting the timing at the can. I like about 1 tab of timing on slick tracks and if traction is good I will run 2 or three tabs of timing but look out as that will be a ton of power on a 7.5!

Hope this helps.

Hope this helps and good luck!
Thanks for the quick reply. And for saving me 180 bucks!
Is this the larger rotor here? http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...Sintered-Rotor
Thanks again!

Just picked up the 17.5
No power and feels like 100% drage brake... and gets very hot fast.
Anyone else have this issue and how long does their warranty take to get a new one back?

check 3 timing's screew. If they are loose you have variable timing (result no power and motor come's very hot).
Set timing as standard and tighten 3 timing's screew
hope this help

Sonics are all I will buy. I am sold on them. They are very smooth from tip of the throttle to end with smooth braking. I wouldn't run another motor if it was free. I sleep with mine under my pillow.

Took the whole motor down to check everything.
Looks fine, tried it on 3 different speedos...
Already sent out looking forward to getting a good one

I seem to be having an issue with my Reedy Sonic 8.5. I cant figure out what gearing this motor wants. I am running a 2WD buggy with an FDR of 8.99 and temps are 117 degrees. I am having to boost it with my Tekin RS just to keep up in the mod class. Currently have boost set to 40 degrees.
According to all the people at my local track I should not have to boost this motor at all and it should be a rocket ship, but it isn't. I have experimented with changing my gearing I even went all the way down to a 7.70 FDR with this motor, and while it picked up top end I lost punch.
Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong with this motor?
Thanks for the help guys.

Yes I've got a 8.5 on my RC10B4...and the ratios that you are using are good.( and I've got the RS )...for 8.5 Reedy you can go from 8.00 to 9.00...depend on the track...down 8 from my point of view it will give more difficulties to the motor to get his RPMs.

Think that, with the "timing" on the motor, you've 15° at 0 tab of timing.
40° on the boost is too much from my point of view.

Usually, on slippery tracks with my RS & Reedy 8.5 ( with 1 or 2 tabs of timing ) :
- Drag brake = Off
- Min Throttle = 10 ( I set sometime at 6 for slippery tracks )
- Timing advance = 0 ( C2 )
- Boost = 27
- Start RPM = 5000 ( 3000 if you want more punch )
- End RPM = 20000
- Curve profile = 3

I use Turbo sometime
Turbo = 17 with ramp 2 and delay at 0.

And with that configuration, during hot weather ( 35°C - 40°C ) down the sun...I never be at 117°C...be care with the timing.
Have you verify the ball bearings of the motor ?...and verify that your transmission is "free" ?

Thank you for the response. Ill give it a try it seemed a bit quicker just testing at the house. However I will not be able to fully test it until Saturday when I make it to the track.

So figured out the issue. There were actually two issues. One was with the ESC itself. RPM range was slightly outside of of the track layout. So brought boost start rpm down a little. Second was gearing was way too tall and wasn't letting RPM's ramp up to a useable band for this motor. (I felt like such a noob) Anyways now that its all sorted out this motor is a monster!! Love it. Runs way cooler then my other mod motors by a decent margin.
Thanks for the help Bastos!!

Has anyone used these motors in their short course trucks? if so, what did you think and should it be geared as the LRP X12 are?
