Turnigy Nanotech Lipo

I used a 4 s 5800 mah Turnigy in my rc8be all last summer. It was a soft case & I never had a issue with the case. I broke the case on my REEDY 60c 4 s pack on the first run. (still using it though) Broke the case on my regular Turnigy 4s 5000 mah hard case on the first use too, & yes, I'm still using it too.

the slightest tear / leak in a pack can result in instantaneous combustion .

In my previous Lipo question thread, someone suggested I not spend more than $80 on a Lipo which I find easy to agree with since I had been looking at spending $140 for a team orion Lipo.
Anyways Im looking at these Turnigy Nanotech Lipo's and their discharge rates are insane.
Im probably going for a 5000mah 4S one with a 35c-#c discharge.
Just wondering what is the consensus on the Nano-tech Lipo's or are they a fancy name to sell more batteries?

{update} I can get my 6600 nano to peak out at 8.4v it is just taking a LONG time after the charge has completed... trickle if you for over an hour after the charge to finally hit 8.4. I don't normally leave packs on so long so I didn't manage to get it to 8.4v until I forgot I had a couple packs charging for a while the other day and they sat.

Even with the quick shipping from Hong Kong, they came to the states in only 3 days, and total cost to me was ~$43 each.
Ironically, I just discovered a local hobby shop that actually stocks and sells nearly all of the offerings from Turnigy.

What are you talking about ? I just ordered 4 hardcase Turnigy Nanotech 50C / 100C peak. Hardcase, tons of punch, a fantastic battery.

Your vehicle you use to get to the track is also full of fuel and is a fire hazard. The packs are fairly well protected by chassis from some pretty insane hits and crashes. Just because a fire *may* occur .001% of the time on a dirt surface doesn't mean we should ban something.

I think they are banned at most race tracks .(i will look into it)
Have you ever witnesed a lithium fire /explosion ?
If not google" lithium fire" ,and follow some links ,i think youl'e be surprised ,as I was .They can take off like rockets, and the fire is so intense that they are capeable of igniting anything close by ,including other lipos.Depending on the cell count ,a lithium fire/explosion is multiple,ie 1 cell, after another .
The hard case packs can crack /break too ,but will contain the explosion /a lot better than a soft pack ,and are not as dependant on a lipo bag ,or safe to charge /transport/store .
in adition to the fire hazard ,the gasses are also highly toxic.
Ille have a look for some links ,and add later

LiPo sacks are recommended for charging any LiPo pack and if I remember correctly, are required at ROAR events (and they all use hard case packs there).

I cannot speak for most race tracks, but the two in my area welcome soft packs. I don't think they would sell many of them if all tracks said no.
I think we are talking two seperate things here. You claim soft packs can get damaged easily. Well I would agree they are easier to damage, but when they get damaged it will be in car on the track. I don't know how most people store theirs when they leave the track, but mine all go into their own little lipo charge bag. By the time you would have taken it out of the car, one would hope a visual inspection has taken place and damage has been checked for. Same would go for the hard packs. Anyone who would just take their stuff and toss it into the room at home without any sort of inspection, is sking for trouble and I hope their insurance is up to date. Though bad stuff will probably happen from something else.

hard vs soft pack
thanks klaymon ,for corecting my statement regarding safe charging ,ive eddited the post to reflect what ime trying to get accross.
However i cant agree with you MikeInCtown.
Its my understanding that most serious ,car burning ,and house / shed fires have occured long after damadged packs were removed from the devise /model.Most battery manufacturers / distributors state that potentially dangerous packs be left in a safe place for at least 10mins ,and some ,up to 20mins ,before they are considered safe .ie after a crash.
anyway it seems like ime wasting my time here .
Some one mentioned rules/bans in an earlier post, well thats most likely what will happen ,if we dont take the warnings and recomendations issued by the experts seriously.Big brother will legislate ,and impose rules to govern the practice. The young and the new inexperienced, participateing in the hobby, should not be advised to flaunt safety recomendations, that have been put in place to protect them,IMO.
and finally . lipo sacks ,and safes, etc ,wont contain a serious lipo fire either.
but they may prevent them turning into rockets.
IMO a bucket of sand or an earthen type pot upturned is more effective,as is ensuring you can get the batts to a safe open area ,preferably on concrete ,so as not to start a bush-fire.

Yeah and they're like twice the price. They wanted 90+ for a pack that sells for 42 on HK's site. Even with shipping costs included HK is still much cheaper. I told the guy there I would pay what HK charges plus shipping/tax and they said nope. So I left.
Also since the USA wherehouse is carrying the nano-tech's 2s hardcase price plus shipping in now 50 a pack. Awesome deal.
