Associated gear diff in Losi 22?

A couple guys at my local track have changed the losi ball diff for the associated gear diff.

Just wondering if anyone else has done this and if so what did you do to make it work.

Don't get me wrong my ball diff is fine carbide balls and AE diff nut but I like the gear diff on carpet. Any help/tips would be awesome

Thanks

Interesting.....

What's more interesting is the two guys at my local tack that have done it are the two fastest guys there.

Chances are they'll go back to the ball diff. The AE guys experiemented with the gear diff in the B4. The 22 is pretty different though, guys are landing on a tighter diff setup so who knows? Maybe it will respond well to tuning with diff oil weights. I've seen the Kyosho SCT run VERY well with the gear diff in it.

Anyone just want to give it a shot but don't know what I need to buy.

And I'm not sure they will go back cause they absolutley love it with the gear diff

Have you tried asking the guys at your track, if so is it because they won't tell you?

I'm not sure how the 22 is setup, so hopefully someone who owns both can chime in........

I prefer ball diff. but I only own a b4, I just hate having to service it more then a gear diff.......

Want to try it, but stuck on the bearing issue. B4.1 uses standard bearings (3/8 x 5/8) and 22 uses metric (10 x 15) for the outdrive bearings.

Maynard 06-18-2011 10:50 PM

3/8 is 9.5mm approx
5/8 is 15.8mm approx

So pretty close maybe a a little dremel work and your good

And to answer your question these guys aren't too forthcoming with information :weird:

The AE RTR (gear diff) gearboxes also use metric bearings so that shouldn't be an issue.

What concerns me is that the Losi diff gear has 51 teeth and the AE one 52. That would indicate that gear mash will be tighter (too tight?) when switching to an AE diff.

Avner.

I wondered that as well but I gotta say it sounds smooth as butter on the track

Keep in mind this is an indoor carpet track which is very hightraction

What is interesting is if you weigh a gear diff and a ball diff. The ball diff is actually heavier. I weighed them on a postal scale and the ball diff is quite a bit heavier actually, however I don't remember the numbers. If anyone can post them, that would be great.

However, that means the gear diff has less rotational mass than the ball diff and that is a performance upgrade.

Pretty certain the B.1 and T4.1 use metric bearings on the outdrives. My SC10 does and the transmissions are identical as far as I know.

ya just checked my b4.1 manual and the out drive bearings are metric 10x16mm

No, that means it won't work.
