If you got that kinda of money ... HPI SAVAGE. Its a beast out of the box. Spend some extra dough and get the 5T conversion and have all kinds of fun.

Lots of recommendations: is it for bashing or racing? 2wd or 4wd? Buggy, truggy or Short course? There are lots of combo's available on sites like Ebay. Stick to branded name like HPI, Tamiya, Kyosho, Associated, Losi etc. because of the availability of spares parts. Some cars on Ebay are cheap, look great but if you crash and break something the only way is to the trashcan.
Beware of the recommendations made here: most guys speak for themselves I like my Tamiya Avante 2011 and my Team Magic M8 electric but you have don't have to like my choice. Take a look around in shops like www.rcmart.com www.stellamodels.net www.amainhobbies.com to see what is available and what you like. If you have seen a model search on youtube to see how it drives or a review like this one:
+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Hope this helps you to start the right way

If you are just looking at bashing (jumps and general off road) a savage flux does what your asking. Tough, fast and you'll be fully set up for well under $1500.

Heres a link to one at RC hobbies who are local to you.

E-Revo, E-Maxx, HPI Savage Flux... any of the electric monster trucks will get you the durability your looking for. Smaller vehicles will be faster, but less durable. 1/8th scale might be an option, they are pretty durable, but more expensive to fix.

Depends where you buy your stuff. I buy my Team Magic stuff from RS Shopping. They are the direct link to the factory
