How to get pinion off motor...weird situation
Hi,
I snapped the end of my allen driver inside of the set screw on the pinion on my castle motor. How can I get the pinion off now since the end of the allen driver is stuck in the set screw thread?!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You can either try and drill the set screw out , or use a cut off wheel and a dremel and grind/cut the set screw , either way you will have to ruin the pinion to get it off . Be careful not to heat up the rotor too much or you could loosen the magnet up or cause it to demagnetize .

I did the same thing with my stock losi motor. I tried to drill it out but couldn't. I ended up taking a wide flat head screw driver and putting it between the pinion and motor and twisted. It was enough to break it loose and then I just pull it off. Do this at your own risk as it could put a dent in the can but it didn't with mine. Might help if you heat it up a little as well.

try free spinning the motor shortly(3-4 sec) at full throttle to see if the allen head will come out...

I think that thing will fall out if you just full throttle it for a second..

12" angle grinder.

Any small puller will work from a hardware store, maybe a battery terminal puller? you dont have to spend $$$ on a pinion puller. Also as others have said try spinning the motor.

There are times that (country song words) "What was I thinking!!" just fit!!!

Been there done that!!
1. wide flat head screw driver
2. dremel
3. hammer and punch <<< cheap puller
4. buy new motor <<< see 1. and 3.

There's also one other avenue. If you were able to loosen the set screw a tiny bit. Just go out and run the car, the pinion will come off. We've all had it happen in races where we thought the pinion was tight enough and coming around turn 3, the car glides to a stop and we notice the pinion is now off LOL.
