Whats a good setup for outdoor 1/8 scale, bumpy, dusty, large jumps?
Was thinking on the second one from Garcia at serpent site. Thoughts?

^^ This is the setup on the site that i tried after the stock setup, which was actually not bad at all.

I ran close to that setup a couple weeks ago outdoor and when the track was dry and slick for everyone else, my car was phenominal. Enough that it moved me up to #2 qualifier for a large series race. I was able to turn inside other cars and pass at will. Best my car has ever felt. the car did tighten up a bit for the main that we ran in the light rain and a really damp/near muddy track.

only changes i made really were Blue CSI pistons, 40wt front/35 rear with 50ish% rebound front and 25ish% rear, rear LRC block and went to 3.5 degrees of rear toe (think that might be 5 out on rear, going of memory so better double check). and Opt 2 steering rack. On that track i ran Supersoft gridiron 2's, red foam.

Edit: btw, i am not sold on the CSI pistons yet. I have been trying them but really thinking of going back to the serpent 6 or 8 hole tapered. They seem to be alot more work to get them tuned in, but not that much gain on the track.

Try bumping up your shock fluid to 60 front 50 rear. What's shock springs do you have for tuning. If you only have the white buy more V2 springs. White springs are pretty hard expecially for tje rear with CSI pistons, buying a few colors below white is a good buy for changing conditions.

V2 blue front and V2 red rear currently like on that sheet. The only springs i have to tune with are a few sets of V1's that came with another V1 car i bought. Don't have any V2 yet.

You recommend trying that stiff of fluid for a loose outdoor track? that seems thick even for CSI pistons. I don't even have 60 in my box! Big part of the reason im really just thinking of ditching the CSI pistons all together, they seem to be all over the board on fluids that work for different tracks. Alot of guesswork with a wide range of fluids...

I usually end up dampened lighter than most like as i am a keep my speed up in corners and carve lines kind of driver.... Not a point a shoot guy like many people like. Usually those that prefer more aggressive point and shoot style like the heavier fluid to make the car more forgiving to being driven hard.

Edit: what springs are you using with that oil combo? If anything i might drop a rate to orange in the rear, but go up a rate if i end up in the same situation where the the car tightens up on a wet track.

Do as you please but trying new tuning options might surprise you. I'm running 60 front red v2 and 50 rear Orange v2, Losi oils.

I don't doubt that. Not going that heavy on oil might be why i have such a hard time finding the sweet spot on these pistons.... After i saw your post it got me looking into it a bit more and it seems everyone likes them better with much heavier oil than i thought.

I will try it for sure and see how i like it. I do need to get some different springs also.

5,7,4 on most tracks works awesome

I'm on 6,8.5,4 now and its really good as well

Did any of you had problems with the center diff orings? They seem too big and dont fit in. No problem front/rear but I did saw theres different parts # for them.

People will tell you that you need a different set of o-rings. :rolleyes: Only problem is the diff cases are all the same so HOW is it supposed to be a different o-ring?

I saw them bulge under the pin in the 2.0 kits in all 3 diffs. Remember the back of the new style sun gears have a recess for the o-ring. I've built 4 2.0 kits so far and a 5th is sitting on my bench to build right now. NONE of the 4 I've built and watched race have leaked a drop or torn the o-ring. Grease it good and don't be afraid to install the gear on top of it.

We already had like 2 pages of this a while back, as i built one of the first kits and posted the response to me from serpent about they had the wrong Orings in. The center diff orings aren't correct in the kits... you need the V2 Orings.

If Rdeppen built his with the wrong Orings and they worked, well then what you do is your choice, but i chose to install the proper parts.

You can contact serpent america and they will take care of it for you.

Ok thanks! What I'm going to do is look for a shock rebuild kit. I think its the same oring as front/center diff. Only saw that on the center diff. The other two were greased and look fine. Thanks again
