anyone else find the gearing recomendations pretty far off for anythng outdoors? heck a 12t wont even mesh with a 550 (motor hits chassis) im running the 32p spur with a 16t pinion on my tekin 4.5 sc4x and i might go up to a 17t.

Tried that but, there is a little small breather hole just under the bleed screw. It would suck air and leak with every stroke. I had to rebuild them with the bladder. I don't know if it's just mine like that(all 4) or all new kits. Hmm...video shows them being built without bladder.
As someone mentioned above. The video shows them built emulsion style without the bladder. There are gaskets included in the kits that are not mentioned in the manual (that I could find) to be used for the emulsion style build. The gasket seals between the cap and the threaded body so the small hole below the bleeder is not an issue.

I can tell what wont work is a Tekin rspro with a Tekin 550 4.5 geared at 62/16 gets hot fast the motor was about 125 not bad but the esc was 175 after only about 7 to 8 laps on small indoor clay track. I wiil try a 13 or 14 the 16 was all they had.

well you were 4 teeth overgeared according the manual, and on a small track it would make it even worse

tekin doesn't recommend it, just get your gearing correct and you "should" be alright.

The new track will be 32x90 so I think a little more motor will be needed for the long straights but I'm going to try gearing it up and see what happens.

We've got two other guys at our track running Orion 5.5's and they're coming off the track in the 130s as well.

As for the 550 motors, I drove another guys truck with the Tekin 4.5 and it was a little quicker as far as torque but felt a little more like a light switch and wasn't nearly as smooth as the 540 can. It's really personal preference, so far the 550 cans are coming off just as hot as the 540 motors in a full race.
Thanks for the info. Im putting a 4.5 540 velociti in mine. It will save me alot of money.

weird,i was excited to run this truck, now im thinking of trading it for a losi with out haveing any track time. I keep earing about gearing issues, shocks coming apart, I already see the Diffs and the servo are sucked into the chassis and no where to be found. The sway bar thing has be bothered to...I mean, why not include it? everyone else has..and its kind of important...and now im thinking about what pinion to use without frying my stuff cause i run on an outdoor track mainly set for 1/8th scale with a real long straight.

haveing second thoughts about this truck...ill see how it plays out. if anyone has a losi scte, hit me up...i may think about it

ive been running this same combo in my slash 4x4 before i swapped the system to this truck and ive always had the 4.5 geared higher than most guys 5.5s ive ran both a Mamba max pro and a Rx8 and niether ever broke 120 running indoor or outdoor and ive never seen the motor over 120 either. I ran this truck around the yard and up the street for about 30minutes to break-in the belt (more than a few speed runs and alot of ripping around) esc was 100 and motor was 110

I wonder if the guys getting the 540's hot were on 3 cells instead of 2.

Ran my car last night with DRRC's car, mine ran better than I would have thought being the first night with it, I ran 50,000/5,000 with sway bars. It was nice and with a little more practice it will be great. But I have one question, everything I read is that the shocks come with no oil, but mine did and I ran the whole race day with zero problems.---Jerry

I'm talking to craig about this, but I think this is what we will do. Craig will make a New thread titled "The SC10 4x4 Guide" with all the info from the first post. I will then close the thread and sticky it, like the TLR 22 thread.

This thread will be unsticked, but will still have the info on the first post.

Sound Good?

It's not that bad, I don't really see any gearing issues. think about it, there are hundreds of motor/esc combinations and people are just trying to get them figured out.
Looking at the truck it may seem that the servo is buried but its not too hard to gain access to it.
There have been a few post of guys changing diff fluid and it didn't take them too long to get them out and make a change.

I think the positive reviews here far outweigh the few negative ones
