I'm far from being a machinist, so the thought of drilling perfectly aligned, counter sunk screw holes into a brand new $100 aluminum chassis causes anxiety! ;) Yikes!

Rcshox has a saddle mount made for the version 1 exotek.

Yeah, I actually bought that kit, but it didn't allow enough room for my RX8, without hacking the the saddle mount kit, the RX8, or both.

Then I tried the Extotek in-line saddle kit, but still can't fit the RX8 without modification.

Was hopeful the FT tray would work (w/Exotek LCG) given the similar size of the iX8 and the RX8.

Thanks

I got jeff's to fit without touching the saddle kit but had to trim the rear upper chassis a little bit and remove the cage on the ESC, considering you dont need a fan it worked out perfect.

Try using the stock seal on the bottom and the trackstar o-ring on the top. Thats how I build mine.
You may have stripped or cross threaded the cartridge also, just something to check.

I have one cross threaded black cap, but got it back on normally.. still, all four leak, rear much worse than front. Using all stock seals also caused leaking.

I don't think the black cap on the very bottom really seals anything. It puts pressure on the seals to tighten them up on the shaft.
I would think so, but are your shock shafts smooth and not pitted from debris hitting them? That could be tearing the seals.

You have the tapered end of the seal housing pointing up into the cartridge?

Theres not many parts to go wrong in there so you may just have to eliminate one thing at a time.
Try replacing one at a time till you find the problem.

Seals are relatively new?
Get new cartridges and black caps.
Get tin shock shafts.

Thats about all that could be wrong.

Seals are fine, no tears.. happened even when the truck wasn't even driven yet.
Tapered end up, yes.
Seals are brand new, in fact.

That is when I saw the very outside edge of the O ring sticking outside of the washer.

So you could see the o-ring sticking outside the washer that's under the sun gear while the outdrive was still installed? That washer is like twice the size of the o-ring. I'm just trying to picture this as I've had mine apart a couple of times trying to make them a bit smoother. The last time I opened them I didn't take off the outdrives and didn't see anything out of the ordinary...

Yeah, kinda crazy. As soon as my post count is high enough I'll post the picture.

Eradicator 04-07-2012 11:57 AM

Is it 5 posts and then you can post pics?

The only thing that's left is the cartige and caps with fresh threads.

Eradicator 04-07-2012 12:00 PM

Well I guess it's more than 5 posts

OK, so it's 10 posts then you can post pics

This is a pic of the O ring. Mind you it was not this bad when I first put it together. It was barely showing if at all. I never ran the truck like this, but it did not feel right after I installed it. I took it out and realized what was happening, so I played with it until is was really bad for a good pic.

I just got an SC 4x4 and already broke the front steering rack. Does anyone make an aluminum rack? Also, are there any other hop ups that are must haves with the SC 10 4x4?

thanks!
