Default 5 yr old racing...Blitz or Slash??

I know there are a lot of dads out there that take their kids to the track and when the track is quiet they try and get their kid to drive around cleanly with the hope they can join a novice race soon. I am at that point now. My son is turning 5 next month and I want to get him a short course for his birthday. He has been driving his 4wd 1/16 Slash and my SC10. He does okay and I feel he needs his own. I have narrowed it down to the BLITZ RTR or the SLASH.

Thoughts and experiences are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This was something I was wondering about too. Not trying to hijack your thread, but what age are most kids getting involved? My son is 2.5, and I have been thinking about it, but I don't think he is not quite ready for one.

Since he's at the point that you will let him drive the stuff you have either the Blitz or Slash will be fine. I would normaly say Slash but if he's showing decent control the Blitz would fine, it's still a pretty tough truck.

My 6 and 7 year olds run slashs. They started when they where 4 and 5. No issues. My buddys 7 year old has broken 2 blitz chassis. I would say slash

Sounds young to me BUT every kid is different, I've seen some 5 year olds that "get it" and I've seen 10 yr olds who just don't.

To add I would say it depends on what your goal is for the child. Are you trying to teach them how to drive on a track and control the truck getting around clean or looking for a truck to turn them loose with and bash around. I would say a Slash if you're looking to turn them loose and bash with it.

I would say the blitz, throw the rpm front spindles in and maybe a lil better servo and run it till the motor goes, i'd throw in a exotek front chassis brace and strc rear camber plate and it should be just fine, blitz's can take a beating and they rarely ever pop off ball cups too.

Slash it is more durable and more than capable for a kid as far as performance . My son is 8 and I gave him my old slash 4x4 and he and I couldn't be happier.

well i guess it depends if you want 4x4 or 2wd, also if its a huge open track or small tight track...

I would go with the slash it's more durable...

Make sure[I know you probably already have] to teach him some driver's etiquette, there's nothing that will make the regular drivers madder than a 5 year old trying to take out their cars for fun...

i love my blitz, but you have to order all replacement parts online (depending on your local hobby shop of course). its a good thing it almost never breaks. they're both very tough. i would get the slash if he crashes a lot and drives crazy for the parts availability, but the blitz if he's a more conservative driver as it does perform better (its a bit tail happy out of the box though which could be frustrating to a very young driver).

Either way, I think one of those would be a great starting platform. I'd check to see what parts are readily available at your racing location to assist with your decision.

it all depends on what you want your son to do with the truck. i have a seven yr old and a 13 yr old and they both raced stadium trucks last year. they both "get it" but at the same time they both love to bash around when we arent at the track. they both broke a lot of parts bashing last year too. this year they got slashe 4x4"s and both love them. they can run whenever they want (thank traxxas for water res. electronics) and that is a bonus. so far they have yet to break anything which is great for my wallet. just keep this stuff in mind before you make your choice. either way it will be a BLAST!!
hope this helps and good luck!
