Default 1/8 Electric Questions

Ok im fairly new to the 1/8 Electronic World and have a few questions.

1) I just Weighed my Losi 8ight 1.0 at 4 1/4 Lbs. It had a Servo, Body, Tires, and Wing on it, and it weighs just a 1/4 LB more than my Jammin SCRT10 and my question is Why wouldnt i be able to just Throw a Castle Sidewinder SCT W/ 2400 KV Motor on it and let her rip. I do about half and half of racing and bashing

2) If the Above idea doesnt work, what combo should i get? my budget isnt that high would most likely be buying it used.

i have no idea why u wouldn't be able to do that set up, i do not run short course except for an sc8 that i just put together. However if i had to guess it might have something to do with the final drive ratios be different, tho u might be able to off set that with different pinions and spur in ur buggy. if that does not work i would purchase a castle mamba monster max and an less then 2000kv motor!!

I know that I really like my MMP in my 1/8 Serpent 811. Check and see what kind of power the SCT version can handle, I would think you would want to run your 1.0 on at least 4S, the MMP can handle up to 6s.

Yeah I see that the SCT Sidewinder system only handles 2s now, I would think you will put too much strain on it under racing conditions in your Losi.

If your on a budget I would get the MMP and if your on 4s put a 1700-1900kv Tekin motor on it. The nice part about the MMP is you can run a sensored motor. I am running a Castle 1800 on my MMP with 4s but its not sensored, the next motor I try will be Tekin.

I would get the mamba monster max. You could run a mamba max pro but if you run any high voltage servos you'll need a external BEC. I'd go with the mamba monster max combo with the 2200kv truggy motor. Motor and esc both run up to 6s. The 2650 castle motor runs up to a 4s i believe. But dont quote me. If your strapped for cash you can always do easy pay through tower hobbies. You'll find the mmm combo cheaper at other online stores but tower is the only one that offers easy pay....your looking at$ 99/month. And like always castle has a year warranty. Barring that u get the esc wet they'll replace it for free. At least from my experience. Maybe others have jerked around by castle. Only speaking for myself.

YES!!! I think if you end up running 2200-2650 for motors this thing will be absolutley wild! If thats what you are after then by all means let her rip, but 2200 on 4s could be hard to control.

Lets look at it this way, nitro engines typically run around 30,000 rpm right? So if you have 2200kv on 4s thats 32,560 rpm (2200x14.8), I have been told and read that 30,000 is pretty much the sweet spot for the best mix of power, control, and runtime. My setup is 26,640 or 1800kv on 4s and it is extremely driveable, but even though its only 26,640 it is still pretty much instant where nitros are not. I guess alot of it also depends on the track you will run on, ours here are usually low/med grip but I did notice on a high grip indoor track that I could use a little more power. Hope this helps a little, I'm kinda new to electric myself so if any of my info is wrong anyone please feel free to correct me!
