I'm using the gearing that traxxas suplies you with when you buy it cuz my tranny seemed to be like slipping or something..and when i had the old gearing on it was making like a pinging noise when i ran the car...and then i changed gearing and it was gone...
if you are using the gearing that traxxas supplies than you are over geared. the gearing that traxxas has on the truck when you buy it is 13/54 which is ok for offroad. the gear they supply in a bag is the 18 pinion. the traxxas manual states not to use the 18 in offroad use. so i am asuming this would also apply to the losi motor as well. so it is not that the losi motor is a bad motor, just the gearing is not correct. as far as the pinging sound, did you check each gear tooth for a small stone that may have got stuck inside? also as far as heat, you have to remember that even if you test the heat on the outside of the motor, remember that the inside is alot hotter, so if the outside is lets just say 180 then the inside is over 200 and that is to hot for a stock brushed motor even if there are neo mags. inside (which there is not for stock, neo can withstand heat more)

Default Get a temp gun

Raced 2 5000mah packs through my buggy last night. Felt my motor after and couldn't hold my fingers on it. Temped it and it was only at 135. Heat tolerance is different for every person. Mine is obviously pretty low.

My original 5805 2wd Slash kit with the AM radio came with a 18/86 stock with the Titan 550 for offroad and an optional 23 tooth pinion for onroad use. On my track I used 17/86. Read the manual. It has a nice little color coded chart for the recommended gearing.

You don't need a temp gun to run the Slash. Just follow the manual!

sorry i was looking at the brushless 2 wheel slash manual, but both manuals state not to use the supplied gear for offroad. also 5805 is not a kit it is rtr like most traxxas products (platnum 4x4 is the kit)

I think you mean 4x4, which would come with the gears you mentioned.

OP, put the original gearing back in it (18/86) and try again..IMO

honestly both are really close mathematicaly, 17/86 being slightly safer..

Default Same exact post 2 weeks ago

AxB....c3x,
You posted the same queston 2 weeks ago entitled "Four motors, two months" or something like that. What is wrong with you? People told you the same stuff then and also commented back then that you had already posted on this.

GEAR IT DOWN AND DON'T RUN SO LONG, OR BUY MORE POWERFUL MOTORS OR GO BRUSHLESS.

Is that so hard too understand?
