Default losi xxt caught on fire today.

my losi xxt caught on fire under normal driving conditions. the setup was tekin sport esc and a speed gems 15t motor, it is brushed. i was running a 6 cell nimh battery. it started to smoke then caught on fire. where the fire was, was the battery lead on the esc side. ther is still enough wire to solder on a new connector and see if the esc works. what do you think caused this. also do you think it fried the esc. let me know.

it would depend on how far and how big the fire was away from the esc is alot of heat transfered to it i'd say shes fried but either way that has to suck

I had a Novak Cyclone go up in flames back in the day in a similar situation (though in a Losi XXX-S G+). I just replaced the damaged wire and it worked fine afterward (still sitting in my XXX-T MF2). As previously said, if the heat didn't get to the ESC and it was just a freak ground or +/- contact, it might still work.

"We started a fire with nimh batteries, so we're bringing out the lipos!"

Somehow that seams like a bad idea? Maybe it's just me.

ha ha, ya that does seam like a bad idea. i dont know for sure but i think it was the nimh battery that caused the fire, not the esc or motor. i know my lipo works fine because i have been using it in my stampede.

But if it's the esc that's not working, lipos are a lot more volatile than nimhs.

I can't see the pics too well (on my phone).

What kind of batt connector were you using? If it's the tamiya style they were known to melt and burn quite frequently. If it's just that, try a new connector (such as deans), new wire and you should be good to go.

ya im not sure that i want to plug my lipo in there. so what should i do. any way to test it. it caught fire on the battery lead on the esc side, not the battery side so does that tell you anything, could it be the esc. yes it was a tamiya connector and i have a deans i can solder on there and plug in my lipo to it.

then I would try it. Do it out in the street and have some thick gloves and a bucket of sand ready. If the lipo catches fire, DO NOT throw water on it!
