I would say to get as much as you can afford! Its always good to err on the too much side than the not enough side! I use both 50 and 65C packs wi9th great success! I wouldn't go any lower IMHO!

The reports I've seen say that average current draw goes down. I would think that Peak current would be down too since the motor will make more torque at the bottom end.

Regardless, I would run a 5000 40C battery minimum.

You may order it right now! Our exclusive Build-A-Ballistic™ 550 Program offers a choice of 8 winds, 2 rotors (including the 14.0mm) and 3 harness lengths.

Build-A-Ballistic™ 550s

We have updated the Kv ratings for all the winds we offer in our custom B-A-B 550 program. We have added the Kv with our 14mm rotor installed for 4x4 SCTs; (Kvs for the standard 12.3mm rotor in parentheses):

·* 4.5T: 3,850 Kv (5,000)
·* 5.5T: 2,850 Kv (3,700)
·* 6.5T: 2,600 Kv (3,400)
·* 7.5T: 2,300 Kv (3,000)
·* 5.5T: 1,900 Kv (2,500)
·* 5.5T: 1,730 Kv (2,250)
·* 5.5T: 1,420 Kv (1,850)
·* 5.5T: 1,230 Kv (1,600)

We will be offering Ballistic 550s with the 14mm rotors installed; but, in the meantime finished motors with this tuning rotor may be ordered above.

Bob Novak: The Kv of the 14 mm 550 rotor is 0.77 times the Kv of the standard rotor. So if the Kv is 5000 (4.5 t) with the standard rotor then it will be 3850 for the 14mm rotor etc. Also racers should gear up their vehicles by a factor of 1.3. Therefore, if one was using a 16 tooth pinion, they should increase this by 16x1.23=19.68. Rounding this down to a safe starting pinion gear of 19 teeth.

Dang that is a big jump in pinon. I am going to try this out. I currently run a 16 with the 12.3mm rotor. Truhe was running a 16 with the 14mm at cactus right? What was his motor temps (if you know) and it seems like he may have been able to gear up.

I just checked our Mod 1 pinions; they are 20T maximum.

Truhe is running a 16T Mod 1 gear, according to Charlie's race report. If you want more info about the race set-ups [email protected].

Answer is on here somewhere in rctech. Just do a search for it if you want to read it yourself. But in a nutshell from what I have read the cost of the material to make the rotor has gone up in price making it too expensive to continue production of the 14mm. Some online hobby stores still have a few in stock. I just picked up one from Amain Hobbies 3 weeks ago and now they don't even list the part# NOV5949. Good luck hunting.

Novak did discontinue it cause the price of Neodymium shot up and Novak couldn't sell them for a big enough profit to make it worth their while too sell .

Bottom line is it worth the upgrade?

Bought the 4.5 SC combo last night by mistake but see I can still get the losi version with the 14 rotor in it for about $10 more then I paid.

Wondering if its worth messing with or just keeping what I have.
